OK so after buying a very very nice 6 from a forum member i put it though its paces and the cat went pop.. oops

I called "meerkat" in Kilburnie , dunno if any one has heard of them but all of my friends have used them with very nice results.

i got a price for a decat pipe, however my thoughts and worries are with the lamda sensor?

can any one give me an idea what happens with removing the cat? ive looked for a post on here but haven't found any information as yet.

he guy from the shop said sum thing about the engine light being on , any information regarding this would be great before i say yes to him

to be honest you could just buy a boss off ebay for about £2 and weld it on at the same time, that's what i'm doing with my 205 gti6 at the moment as it's not currently got one and the gti6 engine needs the plug

just buy a decat like a magnet or a devil one or something, they've already got the lambda holes in, infact most aftermarket ones do

http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=158991

see if any of them are still for sale. are you mating it to an oem system or something else because you'll need the sleeve/fittings to match

The guy in meerkat quoted me 100 quid so i think that's a decent price considering its fitted.

However been reading peoples thoughts about them saying loosing a lot of mid range torque?

but tbh just gonna get one , and then source a decent cat that can be delivered without it being urgent and then change it when it comes to MOT time Smile

But if there making it anyway how much more work is required to drill a hole and weld the new boss on to the new steel, piece of p**s to someone with a welder and the skill to use it

Surely whoever makes it would be clever enough to think about it and put one in anyway?! as they would surely want to see what they were replacing, and notice the original boss?!

Nah I got my wires crossed he's gonna put the lamda sensor in it, also Peugeot escosse said that putting a decat pipe on a pre v reg is worth it but not with later models I have no idea why thought it was the same engine

Just dont run a lambda. I dont! Thumbs up

GTi6 uses a narrowband sensor what is only used during idle and whilst traveling at a constant speed. Any other time the ecu ignores the lambda, acceleration / deceleration.

That's not sound advice at all. Just because it's not a wideband, it doesn't mean it isn't working all the while!

It will constantly be adjusting the mixture. It's all about the emissions on a standard setup. Your car will be dumping too much fuel in on the standard ecu and no lambda hooked up.

Only on a tuned ecu with specific fuel maps setup can you successfully not use the O2 sensor. And in that case, then you can enable the sensor to only work under certain rpm and/or load points on the map, to control the idle etc..

So at the end of all that, to the OP. Just get a decat with a boss.

Did you get your exhaust done at Meercat then?.....he is good, I've had two systems built by them and they know their stuff. If not, then another one to consider since it's closer to you is https://www.simonscustomexhausts.co.uk which is in East Kilbride and he too is good.
