Have you fitted them correctly ? They don't fit flush with diff housing ? I suspect you pushed them to far in ? They should sit just proud of the housing. They leak if you push them to far in.

Really?

I've always fitted them flush with the housing, have done for years and never had a leak. Having said that though, I only use genuine seals, maybe others require different fitting.

Well may be that is the case but was looking last night and if you slide them on the shafts they are not tight enough to seal any way. The shafts only just touch the white plastic teeth not the seals
Waisted money on 2 sets now a set I fitted and then found the gear box was buggered then took the car to have gear box change last night and the guy I had doing it found the same issue.
Time to get genuine I think

The genuine ones used to have the white teeth design, but in later years the design was changed and now doesn't incorporate these.

Welshpug - As for fitting them, they seem to fit best flush. The only seal of which I know has to be a certain depth is the crank seal, flywheel end and this has a specialist tool to ensure you only fit it to that depth. Can you find me a link to where it's stated there is a particular fitting depth for the shaft seals? I'd be interested to see it and the reasons why.

Experience Stan - I only use the white teeth version and they sit proud of the seal so you don't need to have that part flush with the housing

I'm a bit confused by this too, surely as long as the seal is pressed adequately into the housing and the sea/wiper is running on the ground surface of the shaft it doesn't matter if it's proud or flush?
Or are you saying it's just the seals with the plastic cages? So with them the seal outer body can sit flush and leaves the cage standing proud?

From memory, when I have seen boxes with the white teeth seals, the white teeth parts are slightly proud.

However, the new style ones have all been flush and that's how I fit them too.

Believe you can. I bought genuine ones from Neat Car parts in January and they had the teeth.

both types come under the same part number, just manufacture/supply variances.
