Hi guys, after a bit of advice please..
I am looking to do more miles and want to keep my Rallye for weekends and warm evenings so im after a presentable car, diesel, DSG ideally, seats four adults comfortably on long runs, is reliable and up to £5500 budget. In last 5 years.
Good fuel economy essential.

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't have thought that such a car exists. Up your budget 8k and you could find yourself a golf/a3 dsg.

Why DSG? Nice when they work but uber expensive to repair, plus the 2.0 tdi VAG engines do have a number of inherent issues.

What about an a4 1.9 tdi 130? Estates look cool, and there may be some autos about.

my £600 HDI is doing the same job an £8k golf is doing. it's a commuter and that's that!

the above statement is massively open to flaws and conflict but i thought i would just mention it Razz

admittedly not under 5 years old, but we've recently picked up and A4 (B7 - 55 plate) Avant 2.0 TDI. Looks nice, goes pretty well and does about 600miles to a tank. Was under 5k

For my commuter slag, I've just bought a 115k B5 Passat 1.9 tdi highline estate. heated leathers, parking sensors etc for £2,150 with a recent clutch and flywheel!

averaging 48mpg and carries pretty much anything you ask it to!

Dsg isn't essential,a nice 6 speed is good also. Presentable and comfortable because I'll be using to drive some people that have particular standards. I can't use my Rallye, no matter how mint or standard it is.

Bothdebt could stretch to 7k I suppose but Audi A4 is a good shout. I'll have alook on autotrader and on Pistonheads.

Anything to look out for?

A4 - check for water in the footwells, and make sure its the 1.9 tdi 130 bhp rather the 2.0l tdi

All other usual checks to apply

As above, a lot of the VAG 2.0 TDI's have issues with the oil pump and consequently went bang.

306 HDI FTW.

If I was you I would be looking at a bmw e46 330d touring m sport, with your price range you could get the face lift with the 6 speed manual box and more powerful engine
