£11k seems like a hell of a lot to me for a 6 year old Golf.

I've just had a quick look on the net and the price does seem to be there or thereabouts.

Do you actually want it?

Lot of money to spend if you aren't sure.

If you are after one it sounds like a very good car to buy but I'm with Rikki. I couldn't justify spending that sort of money on something so dull (IMO of course)

11k is too much. A bargain would be 8k, but 8.5-9k would be reasonable.

140 or 170 bhp? If the latter, make sure it's had the injector recall.

With such low mileage, and assuiming those were completed during short runs to the the church on Sunday, you've got a good chance that the DPF will be nicely clogged and need replacing at some point.

Milagae might be high for the estate but they are diesels Smile

PD engine's no thanks, seen too many broken ones and people say Pug's are unreliable, Hmm

But as said any modern Derv not driven hard or far clog's up in no time at all, joy's of emission system's, long service intervals are showing now, The amount of worn out cam's on the PD enigne's with over 100k on is silly and that's with a general Garage behind me,

I've not long bought myself a Leon FR TDI 150 as a daily runabout. Very smart looking car yet to find anyone that doesn't like it really. Just had it remPped to 190bhp 410nm torque. I didn't give a lot for it but it needed a lot of mechanical work and suspension.

Mostly sorted now. Can pick a decent one up for £3000.

And yes miles i know all about PD engines and cam lobes. Mines done 123k now and I removed the rocker cover when I did the cambelt and they were surprisingly in very good condition. May have been replaced already though.

This is why I have chosen to replace my HDi. I'm getting a little tired of the rattles, the constant need for tlc of some description and the fact it caught me out twice last year. It's a 12 year old car approaching 300K, so it's done me proud in the 9 years i've had it but it's time for some creature comforts. I just don't have much time to work on the cars anymore.

People on here will never understand the fact that Golf diesels are just about one of the most resistant cars to depreciation and always have been, there'll always be a buyer when you sell it on. Aside from one or 2, most people on here would call a 5K car expensive. (Remember, there'll be a price premium for you to sell it at too...)

There's lots of BMW 525/530 kicking about for good money if you want an E39 but you'll get a few creature comforts, albeit it'll be the same sort of age. 11K sounds a touch high, but if the spec is right and it suits you, go for it.

2008 should be a common rail engine, not a PD (though I'm not sure what was fitted to the Golf). PD's suffered from high mileage cam faults due to the long life oils. Just do regular oil changes with good quality oil and you'll be fine. Smile

2008 on audi changed to common rail mostly but golfs were still PD but mostly 16v which are much more resistant to cam wear afaik
But long life service is a load of s**te and a lot of manufacturers are now realising this and shortening the intervals again.

Depends if it's a mk5 or mk6 as that s the changeover year. 5 will be a pd for sure, 6 should be common rail.

Those diesal Leon's are great. Friends remapped one as above similar power is actually quicker than his previous petrol model with twice the fuel economy!
