Quick question - what is the prevailing opinion of Magnex exhausts for a daily driver? Are the too loud/droney or not much louder than standard?

Thanks

I'd say mine was fairly loud - not rediculous but hardly subtle !

I could cope with it as a daily

Do magnex have larger bore size that mongoose, jetex etc . I've heard good things about the gains from them.

Well, I may well have one for sale soon! I think it's going to be too loud for a daily.

I had a Magnex back box on mine which was insanely loud over standard, let alone a full system. Not sure if anyone wants it? I changed over to a Jetex system

I've got a Magnex on my SC PH1 and IMO it's way to loud. Driving up the motorway it's really droning and thoroughly gets on my nerves.

Then again people keep telling me I'm getting old so what do I know.

haha

I have a Devil Decat, straight through centre section and a Magnex 4" back box. It measures 132dB on noise test, but I love it. Smile

I wanted to put mine through the window of the magnex factory when I had it and then set fire to the factory with all the employees still inside.

I have had a magnex on for 2 years. It was quite quiet but over the time had increased a lot in volume. Its still not terrible but im thinking I'll refit my spare longlife pipe soon. Smile

Whether you love them or hate them seems to be all about your pain threshold then!

Mine is obviously low, and as such I'm putting a wimpy standard one back on. It's in good nick, but unsure how long they last. Is it worth painting it do people think, to try and give it a bit of protection?

Nah, the paint will peel off making it look worse.

Fair enough. In fairness, it looks fine. I just wondered if an extra layer of protection would be worthwhile. That said, getting paint to stay on the pipe would be quite a task I imagine.

I'm running a full magnex system with 3" tailpipe. Noticeably louder than a standard system but I love it. Although I only drive the '6 when I'm in the mood for a hoon so exhaust note is more desired in those situations anyway haha.

My friend has a 3" group n magnex back box on a standard midbox and that's perfectly bearable daily, nice note but not a headache inducing drone

i had a magnex grpn with matching decat and it p**sed me off as a daily driver because of noise. the bonus was it let off flames without hesitation but being followed through Buxton for 5 miles by an unmarked Volvo T5 ended that

Yes, several layers of underlay under the boot carpet dampens the sound somewhat.
If the exhaust is too loud though, slightly quieter than that is still noisy.

The stock muffler has superior design for noise reduction over the aftermarket one's, it consist of
an asymmetric shape for eliminating resonance effect & special small valleys made by stamping.
(like in recording studio where the opposite walls are not parallels)
small mufflers manufacturers don't have expensive press so they settle for cheap rolling machine making symetric shapes
& rely only on the filling without damping by shape.
all it's need to do for converting the stock muffler to freeflow one, is to open it and weld straight through ss perforated pipe instead of the stock one.
