I will be doing the CSCC Tin Tops Series again, got to try and beat the other 306 this year after coming second to it overall in this years series!

At least we both beat the Hondas and Fords!

might do a round or 2 of the French car series if I can afford to and the dates work.

It's normally less than £300, that's probably worst case scenario, probably silverstone!

He is wanting too!

I'd like to do a full season but might just dip my toe in the water with a couple of races In 2014

It will be carnage!

A full season will be pricey, will be interesting to see how you get on especially at Combe!

If CSCC and French Trophy are all on the same weekend at Combe I could e tempted, although that would be a hellishly expensive weekend!

I think you can do one race as a guest, after that you have to enter the series....

Sounds like a good plan. I'm hoping to have some engine work for the 2015 season, will see how things go.

I'm guessing I'll be in class D, not sure until I've weighed the car

Watched my mate race in the French series at Mallory and at donnigton looks a good series, in total they had 3 races per day and 1 qualifying. Clios are the ones to beat although at donnigton my mate came 3rd in every race and the 205 got a 4th then 2nd then won the final race so can be competitive which is nice

3 races? You sure about that?

Registration fee for the French trophy was paid by French car magazine in 2013, all you had to do was stick their sun strip on your window afaik. I believe they're still supporting it next year so hopefully the same again.

Yeah positive I saw it with my own eyes lol. Mallory may have been 2 races but donnigton was 3 but they ran a big grid with Nippon so pos why. Also only half the cars had the sun strip So don't think they push that so much. Seems pretty relaxed series really

I only went to the meeting at Oulton, some friends did the final race just to get a feel, and it was relaxed and friendly, except when one Clio's "brakes failed" and he hit another right in the rear quarter, which created a bit of tension, especially as they were parked next to each other in the paddock. Races are only 15min long so depending on the size of the meeting it may well be possible to run 3 races...

The round at donny was a funny series thing hence 3 races, all the rest of the meets are just 2 races and a quali

I want a go, gotta be a lot of money to get set up with plenty of spares and get the car built to spec tho especially if trying to do every race.

Thought it was time to bump this thread, it seems there are more people interested in racing than I expected.

Along with Pete and Carl I'm also racing in the French Trophy (and occasionally the Tin Tops) series next year - although I'm afraid I'm now lumped in with the "Clio boys" category!

As has already been said, the French Trophy was set up in 2013 specifically for Peugeot, Citroen and Renault. Although membership grew steadily throughout the year, there's still some way to go to get enough regular members to ensure full and competitive grids for every event.

To make the series even more accessible, for this year the organisers have added "Production classes" which lower the bar and means much less modified cars can still be competitive. This is aimed specifically for those with cars prepared to track day levels, i.e. without engine, gearbox or management changes, standard induction and exhaust manifolds and non-adjustable (fast road) suspension etc. [Although obviously you will need a rollcage!]

The full technical regulations for the production class are available on the Track Attack website (PDF)

I'm sure there are many cars in the club which already meet this spec so the only barriers to entry are getting your National B race license (an ARDS test is about £300), getting your racing clobber (helmet, race suit and boots can be anything from about £500) and fitting a fire extinguisher and battery cutoff (from about £200). Timing transponders can usually be hired for a modest fee from TSL who do all the event timing.

As someone who'd done a lot of trackdays but never raced competitively, I can't speak highly enough about my experiences last year. I thought getting into racing would be prohibitively expensive and very daunting but I was totally hooked after only my 1st event. Because the cars are all so similar, and many people know each other from the various online forums, the racing is respectful yet close and atmosphere in the paddock is excellent.

Although the cost per event sounds high at £300, that's not much more than many trackdays cost these days and you really do get a full day's entertainment. And you might even walk away with some impressive silverware for the mantlepiece!

It would be great to see a few more people out next year. If you're considering it and want any advice from someone who's recently been through this, feel free to drop me a PM!

Alternatively, you can join the TARC French Trophy forum

Kev

Excellent. There's quite a few videos from all the competitors up on the 'Tube from last year's races.

Here's mine from Race 1 @ Oulton (not that exciting)

That's Tony (Burpspeed) in front of me on the grid...

I'm thinking about French trophy for future seasons. Sticking with TDT for next season as the race format suits us better.

My ARDS test is booked for 1st Feb. Still having delays getting the cage installed but nearly there.
