as far as i am understanding. my phase 3 xsi engine can be turned into a gti one.

i have a water damaged gti engine which is shot (unsure as to how right now but i dont think the parts i need wont be knackered) and i have a perfectly working xsi engine.

as i understand its done by replacing the inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, coil pack, engine loom, the cams, and the ecu

anything else? please id love a full list..... ive been lent a working car by a family member to comute so i have time to take over my first proper rebuild.

thanks for your replies

Pistons and compression ratio are different, block is the same.

However, the block will be missing the oil spray bars for the underside of the pistons as they are not included in a block destined for an XSi.

You'll need to throw money at the car. Not on parts. Just stand near your car and throw loose change at it, I find this increases performance for a short period of time

Yep, this is true.

Although I was under the impression that he wanted to use the XSi block and the head off his current GTi. Yes

Ideally Jim, getting a GTi-6 donor engine will be the easiest and cheapest way to go mate, and will get your car up and running sooner as well. Smile

Id leave it as XSi, chuck a 6 speed box on it and gti 6 brakes! They go very well after that. not far behind a gti. The engines are much stronger! my missus's one is nearly on 200k and still pulls like a train. (which is my old car)

the inlet i kinda figured.... i dont think all the sensors in that portion are identical.

but the exhaust manifold....to me each one is a peice of art work. might add some ponies n all

i figure i could go one of a few option now. but youll need kinda an update

ive bought a gt tdi mk4 golf off a mate for 350 with tax n mot to get me to n from work.

ive pulled apart the black gti6 today and used the parts (hubs, bearings, wheels etc back on it) to put together my xsi ready for an mot.

as the black gti6 shells under side is rusty as fook im condeming it and salvinging as much as i can. so tommorow im having another go at dismantling it and piling up the bits into my garage for my next gti Smile

asto the xsi.......i might just keep it as another backup car if the golf fails. or sell it now ive fixed it. add to the cash pile for the next gti

im thinkign supercharger : D

I will have my current engine out of my track car up for sale in the next month or so if that's any help? About 107k on it oil changed every two trackdays runs sweet, pulls well no oil or water usage. Head gasket done about 200 miles ago. Only replacing as I've built a new engine that's slightly more track focused... Thumbs up
