yep it's fubard then! if you'd said startup could of been a sticking tappet but mine failed at high speed and it was my bottom end that failed.

Sounds just like one I had to break, that had suffered major big end shell failure across 3 conrods and the 4th was well on It's way. From looking at the way the mains were scored on mine I'd say 100% it was due to not enough oil or a poor quality one.

I may do, My other half's step dad seems to think it would make a good winter project to rebuild it, im not so sure though! lol

Its been serviced every 10k and always had decent oil in it and never got low. Strange really, think it was just its time. The other half has got my old XSi which now has nearly 200k on the clock and it still drives like new.

Its OK, It needed some money spent on it anyway and I was thinking it would be easier to get a new engine as the head gasket was on the way out for the second time, needed a cam belt and service and ideally a new clutch. So least it will all get done now Smile

You'll need to throw money at the car. Not on parts. Just stand near your car and throw loose change at it, I find this increases performance for a short period of time

Done about 40 miles in her yesterday, she didn't enjoy that one bit. she is now tucked away in the garage waiting for a transplant. She will live to tell the tail though Smile

Also popped to my mates workshop, he thought it sounded more top end than bottom, it is intermittent too! Had the rocker covers off and everything seemed to be ok. I think ill strip it down to find the cause. My friend seems to think it could be a broken spring.
