As Bowen says, remove the pulley and get it working freely.

When you remove the pulley, the cam will most likely 'jump' back slightly. This is absolutely fine, when you refit the pulley, just turn the bolt until it's tight and starts to turn the cam and then pin it up again and loosen the bolt to gain pulley free play again.

Please don't take offence to this Mike, but from what I've been reading, you really shouldn't be undertaking this job as it sounds like you are very unsure and this isn't an engine you can be unsure about when it comes to cambelts. Wink

I guess, I just hope it doesn't all end up in tears. Sad

Well apologies for asking for advice stan, I was only asking as I never had this fault before when fitting a belt.

Guess there one way to find out then,

Don't worry mike i find the cams on these fecking engines a massive ball ache to slide nicely - they always seem to jam up when trying to tighten the belt ? Just remember not to rotate the cams if you take off the pulleys ? They will move a bit so just move them back the way they came

Mike - I wasn't criticising you for asking, that's what we're all here for.

I was merely concerned that you seemed rather vague with this particular engine and I didn't want to see you attempt a belt re-alignment and end up with a tapper. Sad
