Had a bit of a search and I know a few members on here used to offer these but can't see that any do now. Where is a known good guaranteed non tapper recon head available? Have a customer in this week with a belt failure on a 6. Fully recon head may be cheaper than sending it to a factors to get all guides replaced skim pressure test etc

getting the current head will cost about the same as another head already done, just depends how quickly you want to turn it around, saying that my local guys will turn it around in a day or two without issue.

I had mine done a couple of years ago at Modus engineering who we give a lot of work to. They are the best around our area by far but also the dearest. I had a very light skim, pressure test 16 valves and guides, valve seats recut and whole head acid dipped and cleaned. However this was close to £600 but you won't find a better job.

£350 sounds a bargain if he does, I know he used to do them but there's nothing in his sig an thought it was nearer to £450-500ish?

Yup but the valves ain't cheap, then labour for recutting seats and replacing guides adds up.

I spared no expense as it was my own car and has given me a lot of driving pleasure. Had 16 new buckets and lifters at the same time won't find a quieter engine lol. Will be high boost soon Wink.

If there built as good as my beam was, you'll be fitting the valves in yourself after collection.

I could try my best to paint the Mona Lisa, but no one would buy it as it would be s**te.

I think if someone is asking for advice then its fair that people share their experiences, good or bad

Very true. I've only really heard good things about Carl's recon heads before however I've heard many a horror story about other work. All useful input welcome Wink.

Thanks for the input guys and the honest info from various people on and off here. Seems hardly anywhere holds stock of a fully recon head anymore. None of the local factors can get one unless we remove te head and give them all the casting numbers to give to a company to make one from scratch! Someway costly.

We have been recommended to another guy who builds dragster engines in his spare time and has all the machines for what we need done. He's meant to be reliable cheap and do excellent work so will see what he says about doing our customers head.

If not we'll be going back to Modus Engineering where I have had hundreds of heads and blocks done in the past however they are expensive. But as I Said their work is second to none. This is a pic of my own head a couple of years ago as it arrived.

Every head comes back looking like it just came out the factory in a heat sealed clear plastic bag even with the main body of the head sprayed with silver high temp paint so it looks absolutely brand new Thumbs up

The customer of the one im about to do had the head gasket replaced on the car 2 years ago by another garage and they obviously re use the timing belt as its jumped a tooth, has a big lump of slack in, is perrished as fook and has split in 3 places around the edge. Nasty stuff! So we'll be sorting it properly for her.

Apologies for jumping on this thread! I've just had my head skimmed and on reassembly we have tried to turn it over by hand and looked like contact is now being made between valves n pistons . What is the max that can be machined off a head? Thanks
