Thanks. Is there a way of measuring the head to see if its too much?

There is a step at the side of the head which is rough casting right next to the gasket face, if this 'step' is flush with the gasket face then it's had it's day in terms of skimming. Yes

Yup if you look closely in the pic of my head on the top corners there are steps which indicate when a head has reached its max skim point or gone beyond it.

I somehow suspect your problem lies with how your timing the engine though. The bottom pulley is probably what your using to set the bottom end up with? Using a drill bit through the 8mm hole in the pulley? It's probably f**ked and has slipped round so no longer lines up. I always lock the flywheel behind the starter motor it's a much better way of timing an engine up can't go wrong really then.


Removed the head on the customers 6 today.... This is what happens when cowboys replace a head gasket, don't time the engine up properly and re- use the cam belt so it jumps a tooth or 2 a few years later.... All 8 exhaust valves have been smacking the pistons....
