despite the only part of my ac system being left is the ac pump and the dash switches.....

it still turns itself on automatically/randomly.........and its miffing me off.

are the ac's functions including this annoying feature controlled by the ecu..... or is there another smaller ecu/controll box that is telling my ac to come on?

if so where is it and how do i disconnect/destroy it?

I think if the ambient temp reads over 25c then the AC will attempt to work automatically. Yes

Also what Stan said LOL

You can use this to operate your cooling fans now. Pin 1/2 for low speed 1/3 for high speed.

You can, although be very careful when doing this that the actual compressor has been removed first. If it hasn't, and there is no gas in the system, the compressor will engage as it's been fooled into thinking there is sufficient gas in the system and will subsequently seize which will most likely result in a snapped aux belt and possible damage to the cambelt cover and/or cambelt.

To carry out this mod, the compressor MUST be removed from the scenario first.

thanks for the info so far guys

i ask as i am worried about the compressor functioning, there is definately no gas in the system so it shouldnt be engaging the compressor.

however the other day i noticed the green led was on. i turned it off and and revs picked up a fair bit momentarily as the compressor disengaged, it does this randomly at times :S

is the ambent temp sensor for the ac system accecsable/removable/foolable?
or is this sensor also used for ecu/engine running?

The ambient temp is picked up from the sensor located in the passenger wing mirror. Yes

Check that somebody hasn't previously bridged the AC pressure switch plug as if there is no gas the compressor definitely should not be starting.

You could do this of course, however if there is no gas in the system it shouldn't be engaging, so the question still remains why is it doing so?

Hang on,

This "can't do this fan mod without removing th ecompressor malarky"

Does just unplugging the compressor fix this issue or no?

Interesting point. I hadn't really thought about it but I assume there must be a wiring connection to the compressor to enable it to see the decision of the refrigerant pressure switch and therefore engage or disengage the clutch, as it sees fit?

So, simply disconnecting any wiring input to the compressor should keep the clutch disengaged and spinning freely, allowing you to bridge the connections at the pressure switch to utilise a fan override.

This matter requires urgent clarification and confirmation.

If it turns out to be as simple as this, it'll be the biggest revelation in the history of 306s and will warrant being stickied on the home page. Shock

Yes, it's that simple. The compressor gets it power via the loom, however the *signal* which is sent via this loom comes from the pressure switch. Therefore as long as the correct pins on the pressure switch plug get power, it will allow power to be sent to the compressor. Yes

So yes, unplugging the compressor will of course stop the compressor from engaging as it will have no power.
The reason I always explain to people that want to try this mod is to make sure there is no compressor present first is because some people won't have the thought of unplugging it and would end up with damage occuring.

Locate the compressor, follow the very short wire and BINGO! A plug will be on the end of it. It really is that simple.

Somewhere there were photos of this trick. I.e how you wire up the switch. Might be good to get a faq sorted if someone has time. Smile

It's not hard - bridging pins 1 and 3 gives you low speed fan operation, bridging pins 1 and 2 gives you high speed fan operation. Yes
