i passed my mot (third time lucky)

anyways, garage man left driver window open. i wound it up and drove home, 4 mins into the journey i decided i want my windows open. both have stopped working. i mite of pressed up before i pressed down but i dont think itd be a burnt motor as both have stopped working

its not a fuse ive checked every single one :s, ive swapped over all my relays so i dont think its that (not sure which does elec windows and the relays i swapped over were from a crashed gti). i dont hear any clicking when i press the button.

can someone point out exactly where to look for this ellusive snapped wire in the drivers door loom with a pic or a good description. is it a wire in the door hing space just above that multiplug, or am i looking in my drivers door?, or am i looking under my dash?

help or pic greatly appreciated as always

jim

On mine it was a heavier white wire and was broken right at the plug so was difficult to mend.

Does the pass window work from its own switch?

If your rear wiper isn't working it could well be the fuse.. check it for continuity not just visually - i chased my tail for a week for such an occurence.

If the wire to the drivers switch is broken I don't think the passenger switch works either.

Correct, once the driver's door loom is broken it cuts the power going to the passenger door as the two seem to run in series. Yes

ill have a gander at it tommorrow. just out of interest if i cant fix it with a soldering iron. how intensive of a job is the wiring loom replacement?

do i need the dash out or.. the instrument panel.. etc etc
does it plug in or will i need to cut and solder it in places?
how far/deep will the new loom wires go from the point of entry to the car?

thanks again

jim

p.s. if i dont find a broken wire could it just be the switch thats gone??

There will be a broken wire. Yes

As for changing the loom, I've never actually done it but from others say about it, it's a fairly simple job with no dash removal etc. Smile
