As above my aux belt likes to whistle as and when it pleases and it's got to the point that it now annoys me! It normally occurs when I've not long been driving and then it'll disappear.

The belt is a dayco belt and hasn't long been on the car (3k) as far as I'm aware it's tight enough and I even tightened it a little more today. Could it be too tight? Or does it still need tightening?

Any advice welcome.

*edit* I have the rallye belt set up and the tensioner is also only 3k old.

how much ply do you have in you're belt?
I run the non air con set-up and it is pretty tight I guess trial and error is key here!

I was once told of and old trick by and Ex's dad to run a piece of chalk along the inside of the belt and that's supposed to shut them up,.. but be very carefull if you do this while the belt is running personally I'd take it of and run chalk around the inside,.. that's if this works?

I was always taught the same as with a Cambelt, if you twist it and its goes more than 90degrees (too loose) and if you can't twist it then its too tight.

Thanks guys. Well it's pretty tight but there is no whirring from the alternator or the tensioner so I'm still not 100% sure.

I can't turn it 90 degrees on its longest run either I'd say it wasn't much more than 75 if that Dunno

I would of tried loosening it not tighten, whistling is usually too tight where as you get more of a squeel if loose.

By what you said above of struggling to get past 75 ish that sounds too tight in the first place.

Which bearing would this be? The guide bearing? As the actual tensioner is new.

You have a tensioner and an idler. I'm voting the idler. Yes

Thanks stan. Easy to replace? Are they expensive?

I'm only in aylesbury bud which isn't far from Wycombe. Just wanna sort it as its ebaressing, need the cambelt replacing again to its done 4.5k now and i still suspect its too tight from the whirring I get from it. Not major so it's not massively too tight but too tight none the less.

They're not too expensive Matt. If you want, I'm only near Bedford myself I can change it for you and do a cambelt at the same time if you need to get it done.

That sounds good Stan. It's literally just the cambelt as the water pump and tensioner has only done 4k so I will just deduct 4k off off the life off of the new belt to be safe.

I will get a price for the aux guide pulley from pug today. I didn't no you were blessed with cambelt changing skills.
