LOL

I've been doing servicing and repairs on these cars for the last nine years Matt...

I've lost count of the amount of belts I've changed. Laugh

I run the non AC set up, the adjustable tensioner is brand new so i will need to replace the belt guide tensioner. Are these the same between the 6/rallye or is it different?

I have part number 575133?? Many thanks.

Have you tried loosening it?

I've seen a good few cars do exactly what you are saying and It's usually because someone has over tensioned the belt, It's definitely worth trying before you spend money that may be a waste.

If it was a bearing they tend to do it constant in my experience, In your case the noise is probably going as the belt gets warm and allows it to stretch.

Bit off topic but your car looked lovly at pugfest, I was going to come and chat but couldn't think who you were at the time and was about to go on a hill run.

I have let the tension of slightly. Maybe I'll let it off even more so?

Ah thanks bud really appreciate that comment. It's a bloody hobby keeping it looking clean. I'm just annoyed with ATM what with the cambelt whirring slightly and now the aux belt. So how tight do you think i should do it bud?

Well your hard work is worth it as that's easily the nicest Nile I've seen.

You want the belt so it'll twist to roughly 90 fairly easily but need forcing to go any further. Personally I'd slacken it right off and start again, adjust it untill you get to the 90 degree twist and see how that is. Remember before you twist check the belt to rotate the engine a few turns or you won't get a real idea of the tension.

Many thanks sir. It's nice when someone appreciates hard work and effort. The GF just says I'm a weirdo because I'm always cleaning it LOL

I've taken your advice and slackened the belt, and now i can turn it a perfect 90 degrees and the f**king whistle is still there! Crazy

As i said the other day, spray some wd40 in the center of the tensioner( bearing part).

It will not penertrate the bearing completely but it might quiet down the noise thus confirming the fault.

Probs just age related, but the tensioner and guides can also fail if the belt is over tightened on the non ac set ups.

My auto tensioner squeaks for the first ten minutes of running, but i do not care LOL

Do you have an alloy crank pully? Mine kept whistling so I changed loads of bits. Turned out the belt was not sitting on the "v" portion of the belt. So I took 1mm off the diameter of the pulley on my lathe and its gone. Smile

I do have the alloy crank pulley. But the noise was present before the crank pulley was fitted. The noise has only occurred over the last couple of months Sad

    I know Smile

I'm not worried just bored lol! The idler I can change myself, I can do everything on these cars apart from the cambelt because that scares me so I'd rather someone else do it such as Stan for example. Just annoying when i was told then tension is fine when it was fitted although i know it's not.

Hi guys just bumping this thread before i crash the 6 in to the nearest lamppost. As per whistling posts the f**king car still whistles!!!!

So just to update you all the f**ked tensioner was replaced after having to have an argument with the original fitter. It was completely mullered having only covered 5k. This in turn killed the idler pulley as well which i replaced at my own cost.

So i personally fitted a new aux belt when i replaced the tensioners and would you believe it the whistling is still present so I'm now completely confused.

    Can anyone help?

    Many thanks Matt.

So finally got round to replacing the cam belt cover and guess what the whistle is still present. I'm seriously getting f**ked off now. I'm literally running out of ideas!!!, could a water pump create this noise? An alternator or even a power steering pump?

Please help guys many thanks Matt.

It could be the alternator bearing ?

Would it be constant though? Or could it be for 10 mins at a time as with my case?

I cant say iv never had this problem. You could get one of them long screwdrivers place it on the ALT with your ear on the end and listen to see if the sound is coming from it ?

The main problem with this noise it that it only occurs when in motion. I've never had a noise of any sort that i haven't been able to find.

This is beyond the joke now though.

    Replaced parts include,
    New cambelt
    Replacement cambelt cover
    Manual tensioner
    Idler pulley
    Aux belt.

It's not getting any worse it's the same as the day it started making the noise.
