I changed the drivers side hub yesterday and now the ABS light won't go out!? The new hub has a different sensor (not new) in it and my ABS worked fine before. I cleaned the ring on the driveshaft with a wire brush and the tip of the sensor is perfectly clean. I have just been out the check the resistance as per the guide posted on here and that checks out (fluctuating between 1650 & 1400 ohms when the wheel is spun) and it gives identical readings to the sensor that came off the car in the other hub. I've not touched any other part of the ABS system, just the drivers side front that I have been working on. I've driven a good few miles in it as well, as I read that the system will reset once above 8mph.

Is there anything obvious that I'm missing??

Cheers,

Nick

Check the obvious things, if you haven't already, such as sensors plugged in, fuses, damaged cables, etc..

If that's all okay then I'd swap back to your known good sensor, and if it's still not working with that refitted then that suggests the ABS ring has been disturbed in some way meaning it's not triggering the sensor correctly.

Were you checking at the sensor plug or the abs unit plug?

I have checked the sensor plug for resistance on both the old (known working) one and the new one. Both were coming up with identical values and were in the range that are given in the "ABS Checking" thread. I've not checked the abs unit yet, as I've not disturbed that, but worth a try. I'm leaning towards the abs ring being too corroded, I wire brushed it and have probably just taken too much rust off!!

Would the light still come on if it was a blown fuse, or would it just not come on when the ignition was switched on??

Cheers,

Nick

Yes, the ABS light is on by default and the ABS unit has to switch it off if the system is healthy.

Unplugging the ABS unit, for example, will bring the light on.

I'd check form the abs unit plug, you've ascertained that the sensors are good, but not the rest of the ABS loom.

As said above, check the resistances now at the main abs harness plug.

I'll give it a go, but strange that all that I've done is change the hub and now it's gone from fully functioning to not!! Would rather not be spending another Saturday underneath it so will test the rest of it.

Cheers,

Nick

I've done that on a Saxo before, with my 306 though I've just put a new driveshaft on and it has sorted it. The old ring had come clean off, so that may have been an issue LOL
