Hi,

I first had standard gbox oil in my 205 VTS converted car to sort of give it a flush out for a few weeks, then just this past week or so had pug gbox oil inside it. The 205 has the VTS engine n gbox fitted with all BBM bushes n Miles adjustable grods, new clutch n bushes fitted. Iv had no cruching at all.

All has been fitted as should be, gbox n engine had done only 39 k so gbox should be In very good nick. Now for a while the g'change at first start up has been easy to get in 1, 3, n 5th gear but after a five minute drive it gets really stiff to get in n out but only in 1, 3 n 5th, 2nd n 4th no problems at all. I have a quick shift L bracket fitted n had to file it down to clear the manifold.

Now as im writing this im thinking it could be down to the manifold getting hot, expanding then hitting it where I had to file the L bracket, anyone else think this could be the problem or have any other ideas as to what the problem is ?

Cheers.

Right iv lengthened it loads n now going into 1, 3, 5 is easy its getting out that is now stiff, although 2.4 th are as easy as they have always been. Looks like ill have to lengthen it even more tomorrow, hope there is enough thread left.

Id have thought Miles would have set them correct, guess taking a car apart makes a difference.

Will update when done.

Iv lengthened it even loads more now n still fine at first drive then once driving a while its stiff coming out of gear.

I have noticed upper gears now have a long throw where as lower gears have a short throw, before I started on car years ago it had a short throw only on upper gears n long throw on lower gears. Going into n out of lower gears is fine.

Could it just be one of the shorter grods at all, any ideas???

Oh n when engine has cooled down going in n out of the upper gears are really easy n smooth ???

Can the rods not be fitted the wrong way round as iirc the ends are not in line with each other??

Here is the L bracket n its slightly loose, the rod in pic shows its hitting the mnaifold. I gave it a quick test n when L bracket is pushed upwards the rods head hits manifold n pulling out of gear is very hard from underneath, but when pulled down it misses it. Hate these manifolds now, cant wait till I can get a 4-2-1 so all rods run clear of it.

L bracket has BBM bush n washer on top between bolt head n bush, should the bolt holding it onto subframe be well tight, I imagine not as it needs the movement ?

Gave L bracket a good tightening and gstick does feel a lot firmer from side to side etc, waiting for engine to warm up then give it a drive on axle stands.

Should fix it, will report back once I find out what difference its made.

bolt should be tight, or it'll flop about and fall off.

just bend the L lever till its not rubbing.

Ok thanks, I though of that but wasnt sure if it would mess about with gear change somehow.

Cause ball joint end is hitting the manifold its causing the L bracket to come loose.

Just got to sort my hand after a big burn from manifold owww lol.

Ok, it might have been bent in the past for all I know causing this problem. Thanks for the conformation.

Cheers

Can you not shorten the rod that attaches to the fouling L bracket slightly? Or is that the one you've lengthened to sort out the stiff change?

LOL

Just lengthened the long main one.

L bracket was on car before I bought it, receipt says short shift from pug performance years ago.

For all I know it could be down to the manifold or maybe jigged it that little bit too much.

Right iv bent it a bit n about to give it a go, i mean fit it lol.

I did it quite tightly n gstick would not move so I had to loosen it a little, I then fitted a nut underneath so it keeps it in the same position as it kept getting loose.

All sorted now, the little bend has fixed the problem, cheers.
