Get it machine polished and see how it comes out.

Don't waste too much money on getting it polished! No

It's laquered so you can't cut the paint, respray is the only way to get it red again.Yes

I've got the same problem and whilst I probably wouldn't fork out for a re-spray any time soon, if a machine polish was likely to make a difference I'd deffo get that done.

When I did a search a while ago there seemed to be as many posts saying "a machine polish will help" as there were saying "it is laquered so you're stuffed".

Is there a firm concensus either way for Cherries?

Difficult to say. If the problem is that the red is faded you need to take it back to the base coat to polish up the red, but then would need more lacquer.

I'd try some elbow grease with some T-cut or something just in case, but more likely than not it is the red faded under the lacquer. Unless the car has been repainted with solid colour with no lacquer.

Mine is losing it's lacquer at an alarming rate now, just coming off every panel. Respray coming up soon. Thankfully a mate has a booth and owes me favours!

Deffo laqueredYes

A machine polish will shine the laquer, but will not cut the red paint that is faded under the laquerNo

Sideskirts, mirror caps and grill and hockey sticks will cut back to bright red,as they are not laqueredWink

£1k would be a mates rates respray.

If you wanted the bodyshop to do the lot, remove lights/bumpers/window seals/rectify all dents/dings etc you would be looking at circa £2.5k for a top notch jobThumbs down
