I would say not on a standard Gti6 engNo

Had one fitted in my 309 I converted to Gti6 eng,and once I drove a Gti6 with 6 speed I realised how much nicer/better geared they areYes

Not a sniff I would ever go to a VTS boxSmile

Why are you thinking of fitting one?Dunno

To balance things out (for now, until the rest of the forum disagrees with me), I MUCH preferred the 5 speed VTS box in both the Xsara VTS as standard and when I had the RFS engine in my 309 GTi. These engines have a fairly broad power band and in a car that tops out at 140mph it really doesn't need 6 gears to keep the engine on song.

Even out on a spirited drive the ratios are too close in my '6, so for the rest of the time when I'm driving normally they're incredibly annoying! I often find myself skipping gears just because it's easier than changing all the funking time!

I really can't see where you are coming from with this business of the gear ratios being "annoying". They are one of the *best* things about the car IMO. Yes

They're just too close and annoyingly so when the 5 speed box is spot on for this engine. It's a marketing gimmick, otherwise the Xsara would probably have the same gearbox as well.

The 5 speed is not perfect for this engine, the revs drop too far between shifts and takes the engine out of it's powerband.
It's not awful but if you want to make rapid progress and aren't a lazy big girls blouse who doesn't want to shift so often then it's the 6 speed box that wins everytime.

If you're dropping out of the out of the ideal range when you change gear with the 5 speed box, you're shifting too early. I promise you. Thumbs up
