Just noticed this down one of the inlet valve hole

Car was running sweet before I removed the engine so maybe it's fine. Looks like a small stone has gone through?

Presume it runs fine? No tapping? If your worried about it then get a compression test done. Will show if there's been any damage at all to the valve seat.

If it was running perfect before, I wouldn't worry about it Nick just put it back in. Smile

Exactly. Can't see it being a problem. Once it's in to the point you can crank it over on the starter I'd do a comp test to make sure it's even on all 4 just for piece of mind Wink. More than likely it's just a poor casting in the head etc and the valve seat is fine.

No Sad

I will be trying to fit a filter this time round. There's just not much room at all in a 205 with 90mm trumpets

They're more restrictive than a good filter though.

You will loose power quicker from airborne dust particles wearing the rings and bores than you stand to gain from omitting the filter. Hot air from a non ducted inlet will also rob you of some ponies too. I would definitely try and find a solution to this. Pipercross do a nice ducted throttle body filter that would probably work for you. It's not as sexy as open trumpets, and will rob you of a little induction noise but for the increase in performance and reduced risk of foreign object damage to the engine internals from stones and loose nuts/bolts etc its got to be worth it.
