Can anyone recommend a decent caster gauge for setting up my front suspension please.

I've seen the magnetic gauges that attach to the hub. Do these work well and accurately? I don't think I can stretch to a whole setup with degree turn tables etc, so want something that will do the job.

Failing this I shall have to try and hunt a suspension expert form in the local area...

Turntables aren't as hard as they are made out to be...... But what are you looking to achieve?

I've come from a setup and geometrical Motorsport back ground which is handy. The 306 is my first go at doing anything mechanical though really and to be fair I've learnt a lot by experiencing and making the f**k ups myself! But with some helpful info and advice on here it's never been a huge problem!

The best way to learn is simply to have a go, drive it make a change and then drive it again to see what effect it's had

Here's a few bits http://www.motorsport-tools.com/camber-castor-c-17780.html

I understand the principles of what to actually do, as in measure from 20 degrees one way, to 20 degrees lock the other way. But whether I could justify the outlay of what it was cost for the turntables is another thing.

I wondered if anyone had used any of the gauges, as ive seen lots of them, and the price varies so greatly from £30 to 2 or 3 hundred. SO If I went for the cheaper end, would I be getting the accuracy, or is the price irrelevant to the usefulness of the tool so to speak.

Never had any issues with the acculevel gauges, use them for everything from building jigs, building chassis and setting it up.

Im guessing going by the link posted above you mean the first one you come to.

What do you do with that one then, basically hold it across a flat on the wheel? Or as some others appear to be done, on a hub or disc with the wheel off? That may be a stupid question..

Do you find the turntables absolutely necessary, or can you use a more rudimentary method of measuring out the degrees on the floor, or at least with something cut to a 20 degree angle and working to that?

For a focused track car...
TBH there isn't much adjustability on a 6.
Adjustable top mounts, front coil overs (height, spring poundage & damper settings) & at a push tweaking rear subframe & adjusting torsion bars is about it.
You can get the camber/toe changed on the rear beam thoughNinja
You need to make the decision what you want to do with your top mounts, all negative camber, all castor or a mix between the two.
Then get it corner weighted...

Have funThumbs up

Cool

I did end up getting these...

They are extended by 10mm & have slots instead of holes, not the best way to get extra negative camber I agree but I figure if I put a spacer between the driveshaft & hub the same thickness as I increase the track each side I should be able to get away with it...

Time will tell

Cool
