I bought a GTi-6 last Thursday as a general run about car so I can crack on with the more timely parts of my 205 gti restoration. Since then I have been able to drive the car once, bit by bit I'm uncovering more and more problems with this 306. I bought it with 1 month MOT left which usually I would avoid but when the car was £700 with it "only needing ball joint and new front discs and pads". Got the car home and over the pit and went to put on the ball joint I was given, wrong size. got the n/s calipers off and they were seized solid, the disc lock screws had sheared and the wheel hub had the wrong bolts driven into them ruining the thread on 1 hole.

This morning I went to tackle the other discs and pads. discs screws had been sheared off again and I couldn't get the calliper out of the holder as the top part of the sliders was a stud Dunno. got a tyre lever on it and put it in the vice to un- seize them too, pulled the sliders out and they nearly fell to bits, and I was shocked to see that with the top one with the stud had actually been made up using a steel rod with a thread cut on it and a nut welded on as a back stop which didnt actually slide at all. Went down to Peugeot and thats another £48 and a day the car is left jacked up till I can pick it up in the morning.

Had a look round the car wondering if its worth carrying on the work in hope to get it through the MOT in three weeks, all the wheel bolts are the tapered type which are only just biting the thread in the hubs (about 3-4 threads), theres a small whole on the corner of the wheel arch which I should be able to weld easy enough, the air filer is a bit of drainage down pipe jammed into the old intake pipes and the exhaust isn't held on by the rubbers but speaker wire.

All these things I was unable to check as I couldn't get under the car with it being lowered so much.
I just hope that when it finally comes to the MOT they don't fail it on some majorly s**t thing, well fail it at all actually otherwise it'll either turn into another project or just stripped and ready for another 205

Anyone else got a duff deal when you first bought yours?

That does sound pretty horiffic to be honest.

The disc lock screws being sheared is pretty standard though.

The V70 was terrible, half the gearbox to engine bolts were missing. And that was just the beginning...

Peetypug: seeing the rust under that fuel tank is making me dread looking under mine!!

I think when i get a van i'll take the Rallye off the road and deal with it during the Summer when i also take the Rear beam off to treat the rust then.

Glad I'm not the only one then, the more I seem to look at it the more I realise it's bodged. It's slowly taking over my 205 as I can't get it from over the pit, and I'm too scared to take the back wheels off in case I find something more haha.

Can't really name and shame as the lad I got it off didn't really do anything only changed a couple of tyres and had a new non tapping head put on in the 6 months he had it, but the reg is R556 WHE.
