Could the pad material have separated completely from the backing as opposed to just wearing out? Normally I'd expect around 20k miles out of a set of pads myself.

Ha sounds like my predicament, bought a valeo clutch and flywheel for the td5 didn't have time to fit it as my dad was off on business and I was running he farm....
Took it to he garage down the road... First problem was he clutch plate was wrong.... Ok I thought its not meant to happen but it does.. Turns out knobhead and co put it in back to front..... THey take it apart and replace it. I get it back ftw front prop isn't tightened up so rattles its bag off, Tightening it up on side of the road and promptly bollocking them honk nothing of it, three months later its juddering and squealing again, but seen as the overpriced bill was paid and deducted off my wages by the dim farm secretary I haven't a leg to stand on.... And there's no way I'm risking another £900 bill (parts inc)

This is why i always prefer to do the work myself these days, cannot trust a lot of garages to complete the work properly.
I once paid £800 odd to have a service, cambelt and MOT done on an Xsi, could've done it a lot cheaper myself!! Sad

Think Phil is referring to a landrover TD5, not a Volvo (going by the farm reference) ?

Edit: see his signature

i think this is what may have happened by the state of the worn out pad/disc! there was no pad material left on it at all! still due to being fitted incorrectly! i will soon be taking a house with space to work on the car so i might start learning and buy some tools in the mean time all is well with the car (kiss of death).

Yeah but i didn't have the sensors on the front to plug the pad cables in! lol so i'm guessing it's not a standard fitment on the Rallye's Dunno

Nope not found on rallyes and it will be low pad warning sensors. But to be fair it's a pants system and cables usually come loose anyway

Lol well as said above it's not essential. It's only a pad 'low' warning sensor. My Rallye doesn't even have them lol!! Big grin
