So I sold my red Rallye thsi evening and the poor chap didn't even make it home before the car stopped and couldn't be restarted. It turns over OK.

I'd like to help him sort it out.

I had the car for nearly 2 years and it always worked fine for me. This evening it was hunting for revs slightly at idle, and even stalled once, which it's never done before. Drove fine otherwise, though.

So what should we check? A read of a few threads gave me this list for starters -

- Spark plugs and leads
- Throttle body electrical connections
- Lambda
- TPS
- MAP sensor
- leaking manifold

All suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

Bit of an update.

All sensor connections seem to be plugged in properly. The car starts and runs, but is hunting and missing quite extensively at idle and stalled when coolant temp around 75 deg C. It can be started again, though, but continues to start and miss.

So does that make the crank sensor less likely, lambda, MAP and TDC sensors more likely?

Evening all,

I am the "poor chap" as mentioned in the first post. A cracking start to Rallye ownership hey!

So, everything is pretty much as Matthew has described. Was missing slightly and hunting yesterday evening, but nothing hugely worrying. Drove home absolutely fine til just around the corner from my house where I stopped at traffic lights. They went green, I pulled away, and the car didnt want to play. It coughed, stalled, and then absolutely refused to start for the next hour and a half. So ended up towing it back to my garage!

The first thing I noticed when opening the bonnet was that this yellow plug was disconnected, which, unless I'm mistaken, is for the TPS. The clip on it is broken so I assume it just worked its way loose. But reconnecting it had no effect at all.



Then I had to shoot off to work a night shift. This afternoon I tried starting it again, and besides a tired battery, it fired up without issue. But this missfire was far more pronounced. It is a little slow to respond to throttle inputs but once it picks up it seems to rev smoothly. I recorded a little video to demonstrate.



First port of tomorrow is to check the spark side of things, plugs, leads and coil. But as this is my real first experience of the Peugeot drivetrain, is there anything else I should be looking for in particular?

Map Sensor/ICV are the first things that spring to mind. Are they prone to failure, and would it cause these syptoms?

Any help massively appreciated. I would very much like to enjoy my new car (and drive to work)!

Either a dodgy lambda sensor or MAP sensor at work here. I'm leaning towards MAP to be honest.

I've read there are two types of coil setups on the 2.0l engine. 4separate coils and one complete unit. Is that right? If so which one is mine? 1999 Rallye T291 KCK. Looking through the service history the plugs were renewed in Feb this year and the MAP in late 2008. No mention of coils though so its got to be up there on the list of possibilities!?

I'll throw a new set of plugs in there anyhow, and do an oil and filter change. Try and bribe it into working!
