Jumped in my gti6 this morning only to find battery light on and stays on, was fine last night. Started up fine and has done all day, relised as well elec front windows not working either seems strange to happen at same time. Battery is nearly new, and all wires to alternator seem ok. Could it be alternator? Any ideas anyone. Thanks in advance

Rear wiper working by chance? Take the relay out, replace the fuse which you will find has blown, and ta-da.

Had the same years ago on my HDi, no elec windows, rear wiper dead, alt light on.

I should add I mean the blue relay attached to the rear wiper motor in the bootlid. This will be all green inside I suspect. Fuse 28 will be blown i suspect if you have a Phase 3.

Good call. Thumbs up

For some reason there is a fault with the design which allows moisture to enter the rear hatch and penetrate the rear wiper relay causing it to corrode and subsequently fail.

Thinking back I was in Cov at the time, so it'll be 2006/7 when mine did it!

I'm not surprised you suffer with this problem Simon if your car sits on the drive all the time whilst you're driving Kia's in SA! LOL

It doesn't get moved and is completely open to collect every rainfall. Sad

This indeed was the problem thanks guys, how I would ever have found that I don't know. Removed relay and then replaced fuse only for it to blow instantly, unplugged rear wiper completely then replaced fuse and all ok. Would that mean that the whole wiper unit at fault? Or just the relay?

Both are probably dead. I couldn't salvage either and replaced the whole lot. Buy a whole phase 3 unit with relay. I nearly said that the whole thing might need replacing, and you might need to unplug it all.
