Valve float? Do you get that with solid lifters?

Also - where do the revs drop when you change? That's right... right in peak power!

Peak power on mine is made at 6880rpm according to the dyno.. So I change at 7750rpm and end up at 6250rpm(ish) so I've got a nice few revs of peak power before I change and get peak power again...

Plus, don't forget - transmission losses are less if you can stay in lower gears longer...

Valve float is a byproduct of high revs and standard valve springs. Basically they are too soft to keep the valve firmly in contact with the follower/lifter. But I would'nt worry too much about it at stock rpm settings.

Right, well - everything is now 100% working :-) yey!!!

Also, fitted my much lighter wheels, sticky tyres and I have to say, it is so so so much better to drive in every way, so I'm selling the challengers if anyone wants them?

Also, had it on the laser alignment kit the other day, and set up the geometry as per the BTCC Peugeot 306's and it feels great... As well as that, finally fitted some black masks and it looks mean!

Can't wait to get some heat in these tyres now!

Only the tracking is adjustable though?Dunno

Surely BTCC 306's would have run fully adjustable front and rear susp?Dunno

OK... so long overdue thread update:

Took it on the road rally, was great fun, if a little cold and wet. The girlfriend thought this:

Then a couple of weeks later, did Curborough sprint day:

http://youtu.be/WRVGePOdApU

Put the car back under it's cover outside, booked a load of track days this year, and then bought this:

That brings us up to date I think! Smile

Im Not trying to be a clever c**t but from your pictures you're not running anything even close to what btcc cars ran?! What uprights, wishbones, top mounts are you using to achieve the adjustability? Geo for which car, driver, circuit and tyres?

I'm running the dry weather geo setup for slicks with the corner bias taken out, as best I can with the kit I've got. I've got no adjustability on the rear, other than ride heigh and damping, but I've got toe, castor, camber and obviously SAI to an extent on the front.

It's never going to be perfect but it's pretty good. Drives much better with a fair bit of toe out on if nothing else.

That picture alone tells me that you're not running anything like the required negative camber for radial slicks!? And why you'd want to run that geo on the road is beyond me! From personal experience stacks of negative camber and toe out on the road is s**t and destroys tyres.
Why so vauge with your reply? How much castor and camber do you rekon you've actually got on and how?
Car geometry is down to personal preference so there isn't ever going to be 1 setup for a '306 on slicks'. If think someone's been pulling your leg.

No there isn,t you are right but I've taken the btcc geo and used bits of it to build my own which works well for me on this car.

It's based around the btcc specs, but like I said before, within the remit of us mere mortals.

I agree, I'm not as extreme as the full specs, but I've taken some of the pointers and gone with what works for them. With a few tweaks, it works well on my car!

A couple of mods:

Firstly, new torsion bars. 23.5mm jobbies from a group buy a while back, and reset with more ride height as it was too low before:

I fitted it ages ago but never wrote on here, oil cooler is on:

and finally, stripped some wiring and stuff out of the inside to lose a little more weight.

Do listen to Allenallen - he knows his stuff on that topic. You aren't running anywhere near -5.5 odd on the front for slicks, -4 odd for semi, the -2 or so on the rear or the toe out on the rear. If you speak to him nicely he can machine your trailing arms to give you more camber and toe. Same as what Martin, Denis and Ash run on their cars.

So its basically a slightly more aggressive road setup that won't work that well on slicks. Should be ok on the R888s or whatever is on there. Smile
On a lighter note it looks a very tidy car Thumbs up
