Hi all

I have recently noticed that the front end on the passenger's side sits higher than the driver's side. In other words the gap between the tyre and the quarter panel is greater on the passenger's side by a good 3-4 CM.

Does anyone know what the standard gap between top of tyre and botton of quarter panel edge should be with standard 195/55 tyres?

Any ideas what causes this? Looks stupid.

Cheers

Pop the front wheels off and check you've not snapped a coil off the spring on the driver's side. It's not an entirely uncommon failure on these now that they're getting on a bit.

Might seem too simple but have you replaced anything on one side that you haven't on the other?

Thanks for the responses. The car has never been lowered and anything I have changed was done to both sides. Will check the springs this weekend. Can anyone measure from top of tyre to quarter panel so I can work out which side is wrong!! Smile

Cheers

Whislt 30-40mm is probably a little excessive, these cars don't match at the rear side to side anyway, although usually the gap is around 5mm.
So once you've found the issue and fixed it don't be alarmed if they still don't match as long as it's not a huge amount. Smile

My 6 is exactly the same... Still the near side sits higher than the offside and I don't understand why. Similar amount to yours as well. It's had 2 different rear beams and still the same so thought one of my front springs was collapsing or weak so replaced both of those with completely different make and strength. Also changed both top mounts at te same time and it's still the same!

Lol measured on a completely flat tiled floor on a ramp at my work. I know the rear is never perfect but the front of mine is way out.... Never had a front end smash or anything either... Maybe the drivers front wing is filled with concrete? Lol. Still handles ok though. And tracking is spot on for toe can't remember the camber but isn't adjustable so I don't think I paid any attention to it last time I did the tracking.

Are the dampers properly seated in the uprights on both sides? There's a little stop/tab welded on the outer damper housing itself and that should be sat flush where it meets the upright.

Check the front and rear anti-roll bars have no preload, they do sag slightly over time, I adjust my rear arb when I got the car for the same thing.

Recently put in a hybrid rear arb and it's spot on. Was like it before anyway. Surely it's impossible for the front arb to put more pressure in one side then the other when the whole Idea of it is to connect the two sides together equally to reduce body roll... E.g if I put pressure on one side of it the other side gets the opposite pressure...

It's quite easy for the front arb to do that, it only has to be twisted slightly (I haven't seen a straight ones yet!), or the droplink tabs be in slightly different places, or play in the arb bushes...
