Well after having fly wheel re faced got the garage to fit new clutch and new fly wheel. Still had a slight cluch judder but getting worse. Spoke with a friend and he said worst case been bottom pulley gone, when I brought the engine it had under gone a refurb on bottom end 2k before, my personal opinion not been a mechanic is the fitting of new clutch/ fly wheel was not correct ie bolts at wrong toque

Can any body shed any light on this

Thanks tony

Did they fit a new clutch cable and clutch shaft bushes.

I doubt very much that incorrect torque would cause it unless the bolts were loose.

Have the engine mounts been replaced?

?

incorrect torque would not,but bolting down unevenly can.

Thinking again, could also be the metal part the release bearing slides on,mine was pretty rusty and the bearing would not slide nicely on it,needs cleaning up with emery clothThumbs up

I asked my friend if sticky cable coud cause this an he said not. My clutch pedal sticks a bit which i fort could be the problem and I read about the bush yesterday il try cable first, but I'm getting a light weight fly wheel so if that don't work il strip it down and clean an sort everything along with another new cluch

I'm slightly confused by this. Did you have the garage fit a "new" flywheel or the one you had re-faced?

If it was the re-faced unit, then it's quite possible the flywheel is now slightly out of balance although they should have spun it up and re-balanced it when they took the material off the front. Yes

Alternatively, it could well be the clutch pressure plate which hasn't been tightened in the correct pattern and therefore is causing judder now. Wink

Was the friction plate in the pressure plate skimmed too? As the judder could be caused by uneven wear there.

Thats a bummer, sounds like they knew about it though as you don't usually pay out to refurb an engine only to sell it right away...

It most certainly shouldn't be the engine unless it has been run dry, it had a brand new clutch when it was built and fitted in the original car and had no issues at all from what I know of it, as you'd expect from a new clutch + cable + bushes, its never run since it was in that car afaik.

The previous owner can never make his fecking mind up about what he wants to build, he's gone from a 2140cc bodied 205 back to a 1905 carbed 8 valve in the space of 18 months Laugh my ass off he never used this engine, nor did the guy he bought it off.

It SHOULD be a good lump for years to come, however I never actually heard it run LOL

Agreed, something certainly doesn't sound right, especially if the bottom end is now knocking itself to pieces when the issue started out as clutch judder...Crazy
