Try putting 12v direct to the pump and see what happens...I must admit, it does sound like a fuel pump issue possibly...Yes

the pump primes on turning the key. it took noticeably longer to prime today too so im thinking its working, just cant keep up with "demand" anymore

It shouldn't be varying the time it takes to prime...the pump sounds weak to me.

Has the fuel filter been replaced at all? It could well be blocked if it's been on there a long time.

yeah i replaced the fuel filter quite early on i normally give my cars a good service when i get them because theres not really a way of knowing if its been done or done properly before.

plugged in again today and it comes up with fuel adaptation out of range....

live sensor data is within tolerances though, which kinda makes me think it isnt a wiring loom fault.

any more ideas?

wiring loom is in, ive double and triple checked all connections, no difference.

ive been told theyre not the smoothest of engines, but they cant be this bad.

you can feel its not right. ive just been up and down the dual carriageway and its fine while accelerating but holding constant speed, after as while you can feel it shaking almost as if youre driving on a bad road (its one of the smoothest round here)

wheels have been balanced, engine mounts been replaced.

it still comes up with fuel adaptation out of range even with everything ive changed.

up til now, the full list is:

coil packs
spark plugs
TPS
ICV
coolant temp sensor
ECU (tried a known good one)
air temp sensor
crank sensor
wiring loom
MAP sensor
lambda sensor
timing was checked when cambelt was done

are they really meant to be this rough?

with the bonnet up you can see the engine rock once in a while, but when it gets bad its all over the place il try to get a video. have already tried but you couldnt see or hear it in the video

Jesus, what a nightmare, think most people would have torched it by now!!!Angry

Have you had emissions checked?
I know you say lambda is working, but could it be fuel press regulater knackered?

only thing not on your list you have not tried is injectorsWink

Either get a known good second hand set,or get yours out and have them tested/reconned.Thumbs up

Blacksix - Try going for a drive and when the problem is at its worst switch off and remove the spark plugs...

The colour etc of the plugs will be able to tell you a lot about exactly what the engine is doing. If you are unsure about what they should look like, take some photos and post them up on here and we can have a look for you. Smile

I'm wondering if the issue is before that now. Like some s**t in your fuel rail or a dodgy pressure regular as mentioned above :p

the misfire isnt confined to one cylinder. ive whipped the plugs out and all look like overfueling according to google search, couldnt take a pic as cam phone is crap lol.

the fpr has been out cleaned and checked, theres no fuel coming down the vacuum line which apparently means its working as it should.

according to my mechanic this can happen when one or more injectors are failing.

edit: as other thread, i cleaned the exhaust up before i went for a run and by the time i got back it was sooty again. so by the plugs and this, something is causing it to run rich/poor atomisation.

all sensors that would control fuelling have been changed, the wiring to those sensors was replaced and all vacuum pipes are ok.

so, it could either be a vacuum issue, multiple bad injectors or fpr, would anyone else agree?

Clapping

Glad this is solved now...one had a black body? Definitely not right, the standard injectors have a dark green body. Yes
Nice one for keeping at it, now you can officially start to enjoy the car now. Smile
