Is it just me or does anyone else find this a really annoying question? I'm all for a bit of haggling, and we all like to get a better price than what is originally asked for. But doesn't the "What's the lowest you'll sell it for?" approach just reek of I can't be arsed? Surely the sellers intention is to maximise his sale, while the object of the buyer is to get the best deal? Shouldn't this trigger a sequence of silly offer, flat refual, less silly offer, polite rebuttal, sensible offer, thoughtful consideration of offer, then finally achieving a mutually satisfactory price all round, sweet.
A good sale leaves both parties happy, and both walk away feeling like they got a good deal, what is the world coming to when you can just bypass the negotiations and demand the lowest acceptable price? Frankly it's an insult. Moreover, who agrees to lower the asking price without even taking an offer? Nutters thats who, it's like dropping your pants for a mugger with nothing more dangerous than a benaner in his pocket.

Rant ends

Chill out and have a beer!

We all like a bargain so asking that question saves pussy footing round and agreeing on a price.people know what hey want for something and if the price isn't to what people want to pay then tough luck

Fine, make an offer of what you want to pay, but don't just say WTLP and expect the doofus seller to roll over and hand you 50%, thats what I'm getting at.

Good advice on the beer front though, Chef's recommendations?

You could try, whats the most you want to pay and see how the react to it.

I agree, meeting somewhere in the middle is a good deal, although some may try it on by putting a higher price.

If you get one worded 'how low can you go' make sure you paste this picture into the return email.

I found that selling a car these days is a real ball ache. Anyone who offers a crappy low offer without even seeing the car isn't even worth replying to as they never end up buying it
