As i was performing a few checks on my car, which ive been doing a lot since i suspected the head gasket was screwy i noticed that this pipe to the right of the oil filter (its so lose thry nearly touch)seems to be leaking coolant down the front of the engine.
Its only really seeping but its enough for it to collect at the sump and drip a teeny bit.
I checked the coolant and its level was more or less the same as 300 miles ago.
There was no mayo in it. No pressure release either.
Its hard to tell from above or under the car weather the coolant is coming from the pipe ( or more specifically its clip / where it mates with whatever it connects to OR slightly further above
Anyideas all?

the oil cooler has 2 pipes coming off it. the one to the right of the filter is a breather hose, is it the thick one? like 45mm thick?

its pretty thick yeah, secured with a clip and so close to the right side of the filter (as you look at it) that they nearly touch

in the last photo, the right oil cooler pipework is facing downwards when it's usually not.

the thick one goes up and to the right, to a T piece, which joins the breathers to the block and then upwards to the cam cover

I have a feeling its actually the once just below what you can see in the second photo and is visble in the first
Slightly below the fileter to the right.

Having said that, with the manifold on I can't see any higher up than that so it could easily be any of those pipes running down the block and collecting artound the hose :s

the thick one to the right of the cooler will have vapour in it, so it either needs tightening up or a hose above it is leaking and running down to it. the hose isn't a really tight fitment though, i pulled mine off with the clip still attached

This makes sense, As I seem to loose coolant after a drive where the car reached a certain temperature.
I Assume that could be when more vapour is going through that pipe (And therefore more of it is leaking?)

What kind of clip is it? a screw tighten jobby or a clip one?

Just to clarify (This is a dumb question.
But the two oil cooler pipes contain coolant right? rather than oil being pumped to that mini radiator thing?

Or is it the other way round?

Coolant runs between those two hoses through the heat exhanger.

You should be able to get the thick breather pipe off without removing the manifold. Take the top hose off to the cam cover. Pull the T piece off. Get underneath and pull the large pipe it question out and away and it should drop down without having to of removed the inlet.

Is it one pipe all the way up to the cam cover then (Parts number wise)
I.e if I order a new one will it come as one part?

Just to clarify, the pipe your experiences problems with - is it the thick spongy curved one?

It comes apart from the T piece, so you should be able to purchase just that bit alone from Pug.

Have a look on service box.

Dan, the oil breather system comes as one part. I broke the short piece that attaches to the cam cover and had to buy the whole lot regardless. Dry

However, I can't see this pipe being the issue. It only carries oil vapour back to the sump, and the complaint is that coolant is being lost when up to temp...

Oh i see I thought it was coolant.

In that case I imagine the next port of call is the right most coolant hose attached to the oil filter/head exchanger and work up from there?

As you can se from Rickkys picture the oil cooler has two water "pipes" the left hand one goes upwards, then accross to the right where it joins into the top rad hose (you wont see most of it as its under the inlet manifold and surrounded with loom and stuff)

The right hand pipe is a much shorter run which goes to the lower pipe on the drivers side of the radiator, about 3inches above the bottom hose.

The two clips that secure these pipes originally are spring clips, not worm drive jubilee clips, so you may have some corrossion on the actual oil cooler water pipes which is just allowing water to ooze out. Easy enough to sort, although i suspect you'd be best off draining the coolant, then the oil and taking the oil cooler off the car to do it, replacing the oil cooler seal (between the cooler and block) for good measure, that way you can really clean the pipes up and check the rubber hoses for damage as well

You will need to strip all these parts down to fit the oil cooler, so yes basically if you wanted one you may as well fit it whilst it's all in bits now. Yes
