I took my car to the garage, as I went to drive home, while starting the car I noticed the heaters were on full blast. Strange for a summers day? As I was driving home I noticed the temperature was getting really hot.

I popped the bonnet and there was water leaking from a pipe in the rear of the engine bay. Is this the matrix heater overflow? Meaning the matrix heater itself has died.. if so, can I just connect the two pipes together to fix this? Obviously I won't have heat, but that's fine.

Edit: This is where it's coming from

Correct. It's a condensation run off for the Ac matrix. Nothing to worry about.

The problem is mine is not dripping its p**sing water out all over the place which is emptying the radiator after a few minutes of use..Unsure I guess bypassing the heater matrix would be the best option.

If matrix was gone id of thought you would of noticed steamy windows and a funny smell almost straight away, I knew mine wasn't right when it just started to barely leak.

Bypass it yes and see if it sorts it, you don't need the heaters on this time of year hardly anyway so give it a go and see what it's like after.

I guess bypass the heater matrix as they suggested and see what happens.

If it fixes it then matrix or one of the pipes most be blocked or split.

Need to fix that really as the winter with no heater is a nightmare for de mistin windows.

Yeh, I think you're right about needing the heater. Apparently replacing the matrix heater is a mammoth task. The garage wont even do it, said it took them two days to do one in the past! Not exactly confidence inspiring!

If the matrix had gone surely water would be p**sing out inside the car.
Have you checked the radiator to engine block coolant pipe?
If might have popped off the back of the engine block?

And I agree I would of expected you to smell and notice immediately if the matrix was screwed, I did.

You were right buzz. I took my car to the garage this morning and on the way the bottom part of my windscreen started steaming accompanied by the smell of coolant. The garage just cut the pipe to the matrix and put this new piece in place.

I'm not fussed about having any heat. And now at least I can count out the matrix heater.

The problem is is that my radiator water still keeps going down. So I most likely have another leak somewhere else Angry

Cutting that pipe is sacrilege. It costs £120 from pug! All they had to do was disconnect the old ones and fit a cheap bit of pipe to bypass the heater.
