Why not re-use the old bolts? The specified tightening torque isn't enough to stretch them.

I re-used my existing ones when I fitted my Quaife.

they have a tendency to strip the threads on removal.

This is true, although I've never seen it myself, I know this can happen. Yes

I think it depends on how you undo them, if you just wind them out they will strip. If you just crack them all then wind them out you can get them undamaged.

Did you take them out one at a time or slacken them all gradually?

I've always slackened them gradually and never had any strip. I must have done half a dozen BE diffs now and I've never had a problem.

When an item is torqued up, each of the bolts should be cracked in succession prior to winding them out.

You don't put them in and torque them up one by one, so why would you do the reverse?

Both my BE diffs let the bolts come out with no issues, i cracked all then removed. Smile

If the CW isnt position right and torqued right from factory then removal will always stip as the thread hits the CW off centre of bolt hole.

Anyway, i'd always use new bolts on the CW as i've seen a few come loose on various cars.

Given that it's a capscrew that's used, which maintains a constant outside diameter along it's threaded and non-threaded portions - that's not actually possible, even if in service rotation occurred. It's intended use is to prevent exactly that. That's a rather large engineering faux pax, to utilise a fastener with a propensity to allow slippage and prevent dismantling! Smile

Nontheless, I also used new bolts when assembling my new diff, as Miles supplied them.

You probably could use the old bolts with no issues, providing they were undamaged on removal. Although for the cost, I would always prefer to use new ones just for peace of mind to be honest. The bolts never stripped on mine when I did it for the ATB fitting but new were used regardless. Smile
