I edited my post as checked my policy and it says it would pay a max of £20,000,00 to 3rd party damage to property

I'm sure I've heard you can refuse a "wright off" status, if you are not the party at fault you can request to be put back to the position you were in before and demand the car be repaired...

And I'm sure if its the fault of someone else not you, you can choose your own place to have it repaired and dont have to use their approved bodyshop...

Must be someone on here who's a bit more in the know
correct!

Your claiming off the offenders insurance and there policy would cover an amount higher for damaged caused to property or personal injury to others.

Your car should be repaired no matter what the cost as it was not your fault and the insurance will pay the damages.

Dont accept a write off as they will try this as an easier option and to get an older car off the road!

I had someone hit me years ago causing damage to rear quater and alloy wheel damage and rear bumper and they offered me a settlement to write off so I just said no I want it repaired so they went back to other insurance company and said no im not accepting anything other then a full repair.
Obviously if they can get away with a clousure offer then they will alway offer it first to get out of a garage bill.

Check ya policy as it will cover in excess to cover third party loss ie damage to property, just checked mine and its £20,000,00

See knew there would be someone who knew a bit more... I wasn't just making sh 1 t up Razz

Gutted to hear this mate - your Rallye looked lovely - I was hoping to get mine to look as good!

Good luck with getting it sorted - and as Dan said your prememium will go up even though it was a no fault accident.

Just had ins quotes for me, £197 not stating accident £247 with the accident (I have ins with the accident before anyone asks!)

Hope you get it fixed - dont want to see another rallye dead! Sad

Rubber roof strips may have absorbed some of the impact.

Not recently but in 2010 got hit up the arse whilst stationary - driving the wifes car(Im a named driver) - so no fault but affects the premium, something about if you have been involved in a crash the next 3 years you are statistically more likely to have another!

Sorry to hear about this mate.

I think there is some truth in what the people are saying about being able to demand a higher cost repair when claiming off the other party's insurance. When I had someone hit my old Xsara I was convinced the car would be written off but the insurance assesor I saw told me that it could be repaired if I wanted as they can go upto 100% of the cars value where as if you put in a claim on your own policy the repair cost only needs to be ~40% of the cars value to make it an "uneconomical repair".

The above could be the guy talking complete rubbish but my ~£800 market value Xsara did get repaired and the repair cost I was told was £700. (you need to know this when you declare you have been involved in an accident btw)

get it written off, buy back, fix using the money. You'll end up most likely having a pocket full of change - I did after mine was written off for being hit. new bumper, light, bonnet and job done

If it is written off, won't it then be a Cat D/C? This would then affect the resale of the car, so although there may be change left over, you may not end up with that change come selling on time. Although I guess a well known car may not be effected by this as much as a random gti6 on autotrader or something.

A friend of mine had a GTiR which a laguna reversed into as he was walking infront of his car. Ended up breaking his leg. Anyway, the damage was a bent metal grille strip thing (bent back straight) the pikey cable ties holding the bumper on snapped, and a headlight impaled his leg.

He got back £2500, got to keep the car and after £20 on eBay and some cable ties he was back on the road.

His leg took most of the impact which was unfortunate.

The most random thing was that the laguna had just been jet washed so the guy couldn't see through the rear screen as he reversed. Got the CCTV on DVD from the petrol station as evidence for insurance an all. Must watch that back agin. Poor sod hobbled round for a week as he was wrongly diagnosed as just having a swelling not a broken leg.

The fact it was a cat D didn't affect his resale....

He spent the payout on go faster bits and blew it up Cry

Its been a very long and telephone rich battle but some 14 days on I have got agreement for old girl to be repaired!!! I'm chuffed, but my work isnt quite done as I siad I'd source a rear bumper. doesnt need to be white but good condition pleeeeease!

And if its makes any difference (someone will know) Its a Rallye so phase 2 or 3, but certainly not 1.

Bumpers are all the same mate, only issue is the centre is not painted on a ph1. That's good news.
