Driving down my local road and saw an X5 reversing into a side road 100 yards in front of me. I slowed and covered the horn button with my finger. He started to pull out whilst looking down the road(left) instead of up the road (right) as I was driving towards him. Instant press of the horn and he stopped but my panic brought on the absThumbs down I managed to stop 5mm from his front bumper in the end!

There is no way I would have missed him if the horn press had not been pre prepared!!

Always have your finger on the hornRoll eyes

Why the panic if you were already aware of a possible situation unfolding before you?

The sharp use of the brakes is deemed pointless IMO perhaps you should have slowed right down in preparation of the other drivers actions and avoided the incident all together Dunno

+1

If i think there is a chance that someone will pull out, then i slow to a crawl so that i dont have to slam the brakes on.

But whatever, you are a lucky boy!

So while still anticipating him pulling out you still nearly collided with him?

You were going too fast then, and you should be braking before beeping the horn.

Maybe I shouldn't feed the troll but I cant help it

Fast_eddie cannot drive slow.

Had he crashed it would not have been his fault as it was out of his control.

I had something like this the other day, I was driving along a road on the way to work, and about 500 yards ahead of me were a load of kids on a pedestrian crossing.

I flashed my lights at them but they just carried on crossing, so I ploughed through them all. Shame, but I did flash my lights.

I avoided certain disaster today by reacting to and anticipating other road users potential movements.

I think they cover this in something called 'The Driving Test'

Oh man tell me about it! The other day I was on the A130 heading back home and the guy in front was going slower than I was, so I had to indicate right, move into the other lane and get past him.

Disaster averted yet again.

I once drove to Kent and stopped only about forty miles before I fell in the sea.

Lucky again.

A valid point. I was just so happy to have stopped short of the cliffs I was happy to be alive. ABS kicked in and everything.
