They can be awesome things. Did a huge amount of research as I nearly bought one.

Brakes - standard aren't good
Clutch - make sure its not original
Gearboxes aren't all that bad

Expensive to run and expensive to insure. Can be very reliable if modified correctly and don't have massive power.

For the time they were supercar fast, and they are very good cars. I was looking at them before getting a 6 and beside the insurance, the gearboxes are made of cheese. Literally.
As you can imagine that kind of power in a 4wsd htach is great though. and it uses the very tuneable Silvia engine

I know of someone who owns one and its pushing quite a considerable amount of power (380bhp) to be precise, however its ALWAYS off the road getting something fixed on it, it also only manages around 5mpg

Standard unabused form i reckon they would be like any other jap car, reliable

Finding a un abused example would be rather hard

Got a little bored of my 205 Mi16 one summer so I test drove one of these looking to sell up and buy it. Was completely standard apart from the wheels and was in reasonable condition. Felt like a barge by comparison and was noticeably slower in a straight line, so I kept the 205. Was a little disappointed as I'd fancied a GTi-R for some time too, long before I owned/became a fan of 205s.

Chocolate gearboxes on them, clutches made of paper. As said if modified sensibly and not too extensively then they can be good fun. I've only ever met one person who had a good 'un

I had a GTi-r hundreds of years ago, through a NME contact I had, was running allegedly 300bhp but my ghost buster mobile legacy turbo felt quicker. I had it for 6 months, collected jealousy scratches and got followed home a few times by suspicious looking gentlemen resulting in comical turn left turn left turn left turh left journeys with them still thinking I hadnt seen them... had a helix clutch in mine which lasted a lot longer than the box. I nearly bought a gp n sunny gti rally car in part ex with it but he wouldnt touch it.. Lost a packet on it and wish i had bought the lancia 16v growler (intergrale) I was looking at instead.
