I try to keep it low cost as possible, but the project is now passing the 5k by a small amount.

The gti6 engine is already being assembled, but with some goodies of course!!

Newman ph3 camshafts
Newman springs and tappets
Wossner high compression 86mm forged pistons
Copper and lead bearings
All the block internals were balanced (crankshaft, pistons, rods, flywheel...)
Magnex de cat exhaust...

That would be spot on mate! You buy a lot of stuff from the UK!

Them brakes look spot on, why are the helper springs on the top of the main spring instead of underneath it?

Tender progressive springs...... They make a serious difference to how nice the car drives and handles especially if u use it on the road too.

The gearbox was not forgotten...
A new LSD was installed, more precisely a clutch plate type...done by a portuguese company specalized in these kind of components.

http://www.rmc.com.pt/

I´ve decided to use the the s16 housing and final drive, wich is the shortest from psa range for BE gearboxes.
All the gears, from 1st to 5th are from a gti6 box...and this is the best setup for getting a close gear ratio, using original parts. The assembly was not a direct fit, because it needs some mods on the original

The chosen gear ratios for 7500rpm / 4,43 FD / 205-50-15 are:

1st - 2.92 - 68kmh
2nd - 1.85 - 107kmh - 5009rpm
3rd - 1.41 - 141kmh - 6008rpm
4th - 1.15 - 173kmh - 6457rpm
5th - 0.95 - 209kmh - 6544rpm

Remind you all that this is a track car, so there´s no need for a lot higher top speed.

GAZ srings 350lbs x 20cm height
Tender springs 20lbs x 10cm height

Jeffers, that's right on target! Wink

Ok then, on my way to Porto!!

They do look just like the answer to do away with the STD joints!
I'd love a set, if the price is right & they are made out of decent materialDunno
I can get titanium if you can make them out of thatNinja

Cool

It´s not a very good price, because the balljoints need to be specific one's, so they can take with mud, dust and everything else...without rubber casing. Due to it's forms, there's no cover available.
Around here they cost around 90pounds each pair.

The price for the complete piece would certainly be around 110pounds or a bit more.
Remind that this isn't done with comercial purposes.

The material used for making the piece is steel just like the original one.

As soon as the s16 gets back on the road, i'll be able to do some parts...but till then, the few hours i have free, are lost in this project. Wink

Yes, the gas for the laser cutter needs to be a different one, but it can made out of that.

The diet continues, and this time TB was the victim...LOL LOL

There was a small problem due to the original internal shape of the TB (not perfectly round), but the machining was possible anyway.
On the thicker part, it had to be welded some alloy, because it has a hollow part.
I don´t know if this happens on all gti6 tb's.

After the alloy welding, the TB was again machined until the aspect you find on the pics.

Thanks guys...

There´s some more work done...

The engine mount that usually cracks...

It was possible to get a lower weight by almost 400grs (1kg std/600'ish rigid one) LOL3 LOL3

Gearbox engine mount project...lol
Engineering moment St Peter's mode!! ;D ;D
Since the original gearbox mount is secured only by one stud, the target of the mount is the reinforcement of itself with the M14 std stud + M14 that the gearbox housing has just on the side of the first one + M8 stud that secures the clutch cable mount.

The final product shoul be like this!

Hmm the engine mounts look interesting.

Wondering whether to go for completely solid mounts like that, my top mount is completely cracked so would need to be repaired anyway.

How much more vibration would you get from that as opposed to uprated rubber mounts?

Atterz, i will not be able to tell the difference exactly because the engine is not the same.

Joey D...my induction kit is already very good...in my opinion of course.
Please check the post 13 on this topic. Wink

Clen...when idling, the vibration is very much noticed, but the response to the throtle and gear change is outstanding.
