Yip, sounds knackered to me.

Any other symptoms? What was it doing when it started making the racket?

Does sound like the bottom end, I wouldn;t drive it any further or you could totally wreck the engine, At least the head is OK currently

Plug was loose, not ant more though. It does sound like the head. It sounds very high up the head on the left as you look at it. I was wondering if it could be a loose cam cap. ( the bit that clamps the cam down ). Very odd noise.

Mine sound like it Aaron the piston on the gearbox side was coming up and hitting the bottom off the head it ended up taking chunks out of it

I can get you a price on an engine swap ? Can always swap bits over from your engine to a replacement ie the cam belt kit etc no need to touch the aircon either Thumbs up

It would be p*ssing oil out the side of the cam carrier if it was loose.
That defiantly sounds like bottom end is knocking
Is there plenty of oil in it?

Have you removed the timing belt cover as it may be a timing cam pulley, the three bolt versions have been known to fail, I have had a few that have sounded like that and that was the issue both times.

Worth a check?

Carl

Good call that ? It did sound a bit top end to me rather than death rattle ? Especially if you have been driving it ? A bottom end gone would let go quite soon if driven ?

Can you get old Stilly to have a look, At least then you'll have a idea what needs doing before shipping it off for repair

but as said engine replacement is just that, all the bolt on bits get swapped over, even the starter and Alt for example

Got engines here as well

As I said, yesterday when I heard it did soynd top end on the pulley side of the head. Well worth a look id say. Smile
Unfortunatly the car is quite far from dave but iirc michelle said its booked in garage wednesday. What exactly goes on the pulley just out if interest? Also, the car has done over 200miles sinse the noise. Would the bottom end have lasted that long?
