Basicly I got a track day booked for the 28th of december and at the mo my engine is a tapper. I was told that the engine was fine when It was removed from the original car and a good run should clear it. it's probily done about 3 miles in the last year. My dilemea is, do i fix it berfore the track day (i have a spare head to take bits from) and risk it not being ready, you all know what these are like for giving suprise problems. Or do i run it as a tapper? will it do any damage?

Cheers in advance.

I'd run it as a tapper there are tappers on here that have been tapping for years

p.s have you still got your aircon fitted ?

Have you had it running for 10 mins?
Ive noticed mine tapped like f*ck for first few minutes after been stood ages, Somthing to do with the tappets been dry, it only went after a quick rev which I wasn't sure wether to do or not due to the noise it was making by as soon as I did it cleared.

I've had it running for a bit and it hasnt made much difference, given it short drives too but it's still pretty much the same, plan is to stick some hydraulic valve treatment in it on the track day and then take it easy on the first outing, never properly driven this car so gotta get used to it. I expecting it to be similar to my D-turbo but much much more faster.lol.

Si, air con is long gone as is everything else, it is pretty bare in there now. i'll update my project thread when its dug out and cleaned for the track day.

I had a tapper and it performed perfectly for 4 year which for me was about 75000miles, so id say run it. Smile

I ran it, tapping got more noticeable towards the end of the day tho. I need to do a timing belt on it so i'll get the cams out and have a check then.

you need the head off not just the cams to fix a tapper
