Quick question,

is it possible to change the cambelt whilst the engine is still in the car without taking it off mounts and moving it about? was gonna do it today but can't see it being as easy as I thought it would be. Is it just worth taking it to a garage and let them deal with it? done a couple before on smaller cars but confused on this one lol

there is a step by step guide in the down load section. ive never done one before but after reading that im going to do mine next week, it seems fairly straight forward. from what i have read its just the top engine mount that gets removed. the engine itsself doent need moved or lifted.

The engine mounts stay in situe. Only the top cradle comes off 2x 13mm bolts IIRC. and be gentle moving the fuel lines out of the way. The rest of the access is gained from removing the D/S wheel.

Basically nothing is removed in terms of engine mounts, its a squeeze but all done whilst in place, you dont really need to remove the wheel but it gives a bit more space.

Totally a diy job if your handy with spanners, just undoing the lower crank pulley may give some headache if you dont have a air gun or powerfull battery gun.

Make sure you pin the cams first and see where the lower crank pulley timing hole is, if it doesnt line up it will have more than likely slipped and that will need replacing.

With regards to getting the bottom pulley off, breaker bar to the ground and quickly crank the engine but dont allow it to start.

Without removing the wheel? I cant even get the cambelt off atm without yelling and swearing lol, think I may get a haynes manual and study it hard, if not the garage can do it.

The cover is a bit fiddly but once off lock the cams into position and the pulley providing everything is ok then remove Smile

*EDIT* if you really are struggling then i wouldn't risk it tbh, very expensive if it goes wrong.

i remove engine mount as my torque wrench doesn't fit onto inlet cam pulley bolt to tighten it back up. Need to move engine back slightly to get it to fit

They are probably using cheap and nasty parts including a belt that will snap within 15K Sad

I'd be very wary of a price like that in all fairness and ask them what brand of parts they are using.

Ive seen the difference in belt quality in a Gates kit and some random unknown company. Wouldnt have anything else put on the car now.

You know these cars have a reputation for snapping belts and waterpump failures - i would use only the best parts possible, especially with the waterpump
