Hi chaps,

The only thing I don't like about my Rallye is the fact that the accelerator pedal rests at the same height as the brake pedal. (This is unlike 90% of other cars I've seen where the pedal rests lower down).

Now I know exactly why it was designed this way - it makes it easier to heel/toe etc - however for me I find it really uncomfortable. I'm 6'4" with long legs so leg room is essential for me. With the accelerator pedal resting so high I'm constantly having to "pull" my foot back and it causes pain down my shin on long journeys.

Anyway, enough of the sob story as I've had the car 2 years now and have been too stubborn to do anything about it!

I'm asking, is there any easy way to adjust the accelerator pedal?

Would it be a case of fitting a slightly shorter accelerator cable and taking a pedal from another Pug, for example? Has anyone done it or tried it?

Cheers

The throttle pedal's a pretty simple arrangement if you look under there, but it does actually move the cable from its fully up position until you hit the floor, so I don't really see what you could do easily.

Perhaps re-weld the pivot part at a different point on the pedal assembly?

Hmm, I think getting a cable that's 1-2 inches shorter might be the only option Sad

The cables have one bare end, so you could simply cut it down, however that would result in the pedal being higher, not lower.

There is an adjuster at the throttle end to give you some slack. You could possibly weld a bit of metal to the pedal arm to stop it returning fully, but then you may not get full travel/full throttle opening.

Or adjust it the other ("man"Wink way, and tighten it up so you get full throttle but can't go below 4k revs Yes

Glue a thicker pedal rubber on the brake pedal?

Nope, I definitely need the accelerator pedal resting further down as it kills my leg having to keep my foot pulled "up" all the time.

I reckon only way is to change where it hinges. Take a look under there as it's hard to picture, but it might be possible to do something.

Take the accelerator pedal off, straighten out the bend and put a new shorter throttle stop on the floor so you can get full throttle before it hits the stop. Don't let the cable go tight at WOT or you will snap the cable.

Cheers fellas. I'll probably end up taking this to someone who knows what the f**k they're doing (unlike me!) and get a quote. I just wanted to see if anybody here had done this first and if it was an easy fix.

I've got the same problem, and really can't find an easy solution and I lack the ability to mod the pedals too.

If you find any easy solution, be sure to post it!

The actual pedal's an extremely simple thing, just a bit of bent metal with a bit of tube welded to it.

I'm sure you can sort something on the cheap, it's just a case of making sure you can go from full shut to full open without risk of snapping the cable Yes

I came across the same problem on my uncles clio, it was at such an odd angle it was hurting his back too. I took it off and bent it in a vice to a different angle. worked a treat.

You'd need to move the pedal pivot point further down the pedal and adjust the stopper and return spring. Would give you less pedal travel at the foot end relative to travel at the top. Trouble with that is the possibility of stretching the cable before you reach the bumpstop at WOT and the cable could snap.

Had to look into this when playing with the R1 throttle bodies as the bit of the bodies the cable attached to was a smaller diameter that the OE throttle body mechanism meaning there was less pedal travel. Gave up in the end as it was too much faff.
