Smug LOL

Rust Bullet is my recommended paint nowYes

After doin research on Por15 I was put off by the amount of bad threads on internet about itNo

I have used Epoxy Mastic121 before, and that is not a patch on the Rust BulletWink

It can be used on ANY surface, clean metal/rusty metal/wood/concrete/plastic/painted metal etcCool

I can't say how long it will keep the rust at bay as only used it just under a year ago, although Rust Bullet quote it will last 10 years over previously rusty metal.

One test I have tried out is the 'How long will it take to get off my hands' test Roll eyes

It will still be on hands after about 5 showers and attacking with the nail brush!LOL

Other paints will peel off skin pretty easily when dry,not Rust BulletBig grin

Does it have an acid chemical inside it so it etches into the clean metal for a long lasting bond ?

Might be a bit late by now, but you may as well keep it in the family and use Dynax UB...

Mine has a bit of the steel missing due to rust in this area, would you be interested in welding some fresh steel in there Phil? If you are, how many beer tokens would you want? Smile

Nice one coskev Thumbs up

That will help with the car im currently butt welding inner wing panels etc. Its very rusty between the spot welded panels, which is one problem hard to get at with any type of stuff.

Ordered already.

http://www.rustbulletuk.com/faq/all_faq.php?cat_id=5

Looking through the FAQ's it is acidic as is good for aluminum so it must be like what etch primer is like on bare steel.

Having a ten year guarantee is what makes this paint very good, an worth buying.

I called them up and was told it doesn't have an etch type chemical, you have to sand key the clean steel surface using 300 or so grade, similar to the rust surface. I was also told that because its a very hard paint, when the chassis moves it will crack and let water in, so it is best for flat surfaces with no seams etc. Properly good quality applied PU sealant will sort the seams out.

Still going...starting the front half of the car soon. Yes, I think I'll stick to Bilt Hamber and put some Dynax UB in there.

Bit of a thread bump but after fully stripping all the rust off I've found a couple of rust holes in the cross-member behind the front wheels where jacking it up on the thin box section has resulted in water getting under the underseal.

I'm going to get it properly fixed by a Pug-approved bodyshop, as there is no point spending money on the car if the structure isn't right.

One side has already been fixed (see photo), but I noticed that the other (yet to be fixed) side has a drain(?) hole that is not present on the repaired side which is in addition to - and inboard of - the hole which has a 20mm bung.

This is the side that has been repaired previously.

Does water drain through here? ISTR a comment where someone said there is a water drain here through the chassis?

Or is it OK to seal it up after welding and inject loads of cavity wax into it.

EDIT: found the comment in this thread:

phillipm wrote:
Quite common for them to go there if the outlet gets dented/blocked, it's the drain through the chassis.

Need to drill a drain hole then!

The holes are there for drainage, fill the cavity with the Dynax UB then leave the hole there. The UB wax will suffocate the rust from spreading, it will also stop any water getting onto the metal, even if its dirty/dusty, the wax will stick to anything. The hole will also be needed for when you need to re-apply the wax after a few years too, it doesn't last for ever if you want it to keep on working.
