so i've done shocks, eibach's, top mounts, roller bearing wishbone bushes. just recently had new ball joints, droplinks fitted. and the steering feels light and loose. any ideas? the car seems to track over the road a fair bit but i know that's down to less play in the wishbone bushes. but it doesn't feel right on the road, not stable kind of feeling.
also there is a knock when i turn full lock right and set off on a gradient. but the garage assures me the droplinks are a-ok..... hmmm...

Bit of play in the steering rack or the UJ's on the column?
I've got some at the minute and it's doing the same thing.

Universal Joint - the hinged bits on the steering column - quite often develop a bit of play as the cars get older those.

Rack is a complete strip-down job, or replace.

Could just be the tracking.

Knock when setting off is common if the wishbone bolts haven't gone up properly though, slacken them off and retorque, see if it goes away.

i'll have a look at the bolts. cheers. it was supposed to have been tracked up, would worn track rod ends make it do that?

Could be worn track-rod-ends or Pbushes.

Is your power steering very very light by chance?

I picked up an advisory on MOT for play in track rod on the pass side. Drivers side was bent by a kind garage after replacing the other side so did them both and all the slop in the steering has gone - although as part of good maintenance i'd fitten droplinks and wishbones too.
