HI fellas, thought i'd get a bit of feedback before I go replacing MORE parts.

I'm getting a clunk coming from the passenger side strut area under setting off and hard braking. I also get judder through the steering wheel under braking that is not present at any other time, only when braking. I'm also getting what would appear to be a bearing/CV type noise when turning right but a garage has confirmed the bearing and driveshaft are in good condition. The discs are also seated properly and confirmed not warped.

The judder is more of a wide side to side shake and can feel the car pulling slightly over rough ground, also getting a fair bit of torque steer under load.

Within the last 12 months its had:

New front discs + pads
New balljoints x 2
New hubs + bearings x 2
New top mounts + bearings x 2
New wishbones P-bushes and round bushes

Only think I haven't touched is the track rod ends. The tracking is definitely out, but the TRE's were replaced nearly two years ago with pattern parts. If one's not done up tightly enough or is worn, i've heard it can lead to all the symptoms i'm experiencing.

Thoughts?

Is there any play in the wheel when it's yanked up? My TRE's were fine, but the end going inside the steering rack was knackered and making a clunk.

Doesn't sound like what you're experiencing, but worth checking in case.

New steering rack sorted it.

Dry Really rather hope it's not rack related.

The tracking seems to vary though when you look at the car front on. Some days the N/S wheel definitely has more toe than others. Almost definitely play in SOMETHING...

Not a snapped bolt holding the wishbone in or something stupid? Would still look fine and probably wouldn't fall out as it's under load.

Sounds like same symptoms i had a couple months back. I just went under the car and torqued up ever nut and bolt i could find which cured it. Also had those issues when my wishbone bolt was really loose. Sounds like something could be loose down there

iv had the small 13mm bolt snap in my p-bush once Sad
p-bush destroyed pretty quick and wasnt good for rest of bushes and track rod ends

or.... but if you havent replaced the track rod ends in a while id go for them.

Also check your Track Rods themselves ; where they meet the steering rack (hard as they have rubber covers you wont get off)
i had to replace mine a bit back, although that was more of a constant wobble which got worse when braking

Best bet is to actually take the bolts out of the wishboens and balljoints, then re-torque them all, can feel tight even if they've stripped/slipped or picked up on some muck, etc, so a spanner check just on the end doesn't really help.

Does sound like either a track rod or a wishbone moving though at first guess.

Drop Link ... ftw! Whistle

Just had similar symptoms. Felt like the front steering/suspension was detached. This was caused by just one end of the right drop link being seized.

Also check the calliper to hub mounting bolts for the brakes ... and apply locking compound 120Nm i think.

mind tightening your wishbone bushes while they have a load on them, i.e when car is down on 4 wheels

or as it says in faq section, i think you can jack the hub up, that way your rubber bushes wont perrish soo quick?

correct me if im wrong!

Hmm i'll just have to take everything apart again i think. Had it all stripped down when I fitted new top mounts, ball joints and bearings, the noise was present before that. Will pop to the motorfactors, TRE's aren't exactly expensive and mine look to be a bit seized
