Just got myself some of this stuff for some electrical work on the car, and I gotta say - GOD DAMN it's thin!

I don't know whether it's just because I've always over-spec'd my wires or whether it's because it has so little insulation but this stuff is disconcertingly thin.

Hard to get a sense of scale, but the smaller one is 0.5mm^2, barely 1.5mm diameter. Yet is rated for 11 amps?!

The larger is 2.7mm diameter (2mm^2) and is rated for 25A. Next to a 5p coin:

Has anyone ever used this stuff before? And does that sound about right? It's from a reputable place, just didn't want to use it just for someone to say it'll melt and burst into flames.

Always use the thin-wall stuff tbh - unless it's for something silly spec and then it gets aluminium wiring.
The harder coating is better at stopping them getting abraded from all the dirt and shit too.

^^Razz

Modern auto cable has really thin insulation compared to the older stuff. I was told it is because the insulation and heat handling properties of modern plastics are so good.

LOL nothing new there then with 306 custom firing wiring

always had an extinguisher and camera ready when i had electrical jobs on the go. getting good at it now. can wire bulbs up in houses now aswell. no, really, fear the skillz

hardest one was the hazard switch, contiuously kept burning wires and ended up redoing the full loom. then kev told me how to do it. wish i'd asked him sooner

Heh, I definitely didn't get through about five fuses figuring out how the wiring for the fog lights worked Wink
