Guys,

I was sitting in traffic today and noticed that my Fan on my Rad is Kicking in rather late. I was very close to turning the car off!! and this was in the middle of London.

The fan is kicking in just after 100c this seems way to late. IN the FAQ it says around 97c but my needles going over the 100 mark!!

Is a sensor or switch need replacing, last thing i was is the HG blowing.

Its 97 degrees for the low speed fan, 107 for the high speed, if it comes on at 107 it will still be fine.

Did the fans actually come on?

If its not coming on just low speed its probably the brown temp sensor.

Bennn, the fan did come on mate. The fan was on when th temp hit 107. If you look at the pic at the top, the fan was running at the time. Was bit close to the red! I think I going to get some after market gauges, as I want proper readings when I run the SC kit.

If one fan is broken, you will not get any low speed operation and only one fan at high speed which may not be enough if we get a hot summer.

Bear in mind it's a Rallye so unless it had A/C fitted in the factory it won't use the brown sensor and it will only have one fan.

The gauge reading is definitely above normal operating temperatures. The temperature gauges on Peugeot's of this age are actually very accurate assuming the sensors are in good working order. The gauge reading comes from the blue sensor on the thermostat housing and there is a green one that is used by the ECU.

A/C cars also have a brown sensor for controlling the fans, but non-A/C cars use a switch in the radiator for the fans.

The high / low speed switching is done in the same way as the A/C model, with the relays in the fan cowling switching the fan motors between parallel and series circuitry. On the Non-A/C configuration a resistor pack is used to provide the voltage drop needed for low speed operation. You can actually upgrade to the two fan setup just by removing this resistor pack and installing the fan instead.

The temperature switch in the radiator is the first thing I'd look at, and check the relays in the fan cowling if the switch is okay.

It's a possibility if the coolant has recently been changed and the system hasn't been bled properly.

What condition is your rad in? it could be old and partialy blocked with bugs and road dirt, a new rad will help keep things cool.

Plus you could wire in a switch and manually knock the fan on when u feel its getting warm.

Thats my bet. Probly the relay like i said earlier. Its a good shout upgrading to dual fans though. Smile

Its a 6, I will check the relays and test for a Lazy fan motor, I ordered some fan sensors today but dont think that they will fix the problem

Just pop out to the car. Turn on the ignition and unplug the brown sensor and check the sensor. Its usually that or a shagged motor. Think dodgy relays are the rallyes fan issue. Could be wrong though.
