Well after my little rant yesterday

clicky

We've done some checks and it looks like sods law has kicked in. The bottom end seems to be knocking under load now.

Everything seemed fine on prior to the head gasket issues so it just seems my luck is out at the minute. The gasket failed in the 1st cylinder (Cambelt end) and the knocking is from the last (Flywheel end). When you unplug the coilpack from the last cylinder, the knocking goes, obviously its no longer under load.

So, is it possible to do any of the bottom end bearings from the sump side? Or is the only way to do it via removing the head again!!!

To say owning a french car is a love hate relationship is an understatement, still its done well to last so long with the abuse its had over the past 5 years.

You can change it all from underneath, no need to remove the head.

The only circumstances in which you will need to remove the head is if you've spun a bearing shell around within the big-end in the rod.

This stretches the rod's big-end, and the rod will need to be replaced, which must be done from the top.
