I've got the head off and finally had a chance to have a look at it. For those that don't know it had blown its headgasket before i bought the car and pressurising the coolant.

I have a couple of concerns since stripping the head, so please can someone in the know confirm whether its worth getting a different head or not, here are my concerns:

Looks to be a chunk missing which may mean the head gasket won't seal the cylinder properly:

Also, there seems to be some scoring on both the camshafts and the cam carriers / head, they look worse in the pictures but can just be felt by running my nail over them:

Any advice appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

Cheaper to get another head, The corrision is the worst I;ve seen on one of those, More common on the older XU engine's.
You can fix it but at the moment BER

Someone's run it without enough anti-freeze looking at that.

The cam marks aren't ideal but they're pretty usual for Pug engines if the oil change has been left too long at some point, or it's been contaminated, you'll find most of it will polish back with diamond paste.
