Will it compliment a cammed engine? Or in reality, have little affect?

Also, do you get much induction noise out of these?

Finally, is it a simple bolt on or will i need to fashion some kind of hose/carrier?

as far as I know and have seen the 106gti's respond pretty well to breathing mods... (though a 13hp gain seems a bit much)

its quite known that 106 gti's tended to perform easily over the book 120 bhp Wink

Personally I'd just fit a green or K&N element in the standard airbox.

Steal a Supercharger Wink

Put it this way, a well executed ducted cold air feed can't hurt your engine (unless it sucks up a puddle) but to take any advantage of more air coming in you will need a remap.

All to do with how the intake is flowed. The GTI6 manifold is well designed and can't be improved on much at all, the 106 GTi seems to have a fair bit of room for improvement.

Also this is purely based on logic and not fact, but the 106GTi inlet is at the back of the engine so may benefit more from heat shielding the air intake as opposed to the GTI6 engine's inlet being at the front of the engine.

I replaced my K&N 57i with one of these and they are very good.
It comes with all the bits needed to fit and is pretty straight forward.

I managed to squeeze mine in so that the filter uses the original air scoop so that the filter is completely enclosed from the hot engine bay and more importantly, large puddles.

It was one of the main reasons I replaced the low down sitting K&N in the end.

Induction noise is not very noticable compared to the 57i.

I have a standard exhaust back on mine now and with the viper on, does not sound any different to standard tbh.
It also weigh's a lot less than the standard airbox which is another bonus.

£200 is a fair chunk for a filter, but very well made and worth the cost in the long run.

I bought mine brand new off a guy on egay last year and won it for a silly bargain price Big grin

Also try searching for S16 kits as they are the same model number 042. xsi may be the same but not sure on that Smile

Halfords do there own filter that is closed and can be made into one of these kits quite easy. I got 1 from there as my last 1 fell off and i ran it over....... £30 + induction hose £10 then a cold air feed. Less than £50 and u can make your own which is just as good. I will get some pics and post on projects thread soon
