So post-rallye. What do you buy? Something sensible like a diesel and wonder what happened to your life or something fun and cheap. So I went for a subaru thats neither cheap or sensible. Unless its snowing and you really need 4wd. Which I don't.

As most will know and few will care its a standard 117k UK turbo 2000 in metallic squashed frog green. Quite a few scratches on the front and rear bumpers, rusty rear box and a perfect interior. Bought from a friend who did me a very good price and then replaced the rad when the plastic split on the side. One owner and FSSH. Unbelievable amount of money spent on it over the years. Hey hum.

Only initial things were a very tired balljoint (unknown to go on subarus...), the MAF and a split top rad hose. Also the NSF damper was a bit buggered too.

After the years of monkeying about I decided to keep this car completely standard. Its a great drive as it is, pretty quick with cracking if slightly understeery handling. Photos will follow.

So then I spoke to Curtis at AST to see if he had a spare front shock floating about. He did, but not quite what I was after. Its now got refurbed Sportline 1 coilovers with 225/175 springs. Oops!LOL

Oh yeah anti-lift kit went on today, alignment tomorrow, 22mm rear arb sometime when i can afford it, prodrive turbo-intercooler hose, walbro 255, STi rear box and quite possibly a Bob Rawle or Mabz remap sometime soon. Decent pads and I might ditch the second cat as well...

So like I said its staying standard. Well it still looks standard Doh

The big CAT in the downpipe you mean? Wink

Mrs. had a UK turbo on a P reg that had the Pro-Drive performance pack fitted from the dealer Smile

We put a TSL big mouth downpipe on that, made a massive difference Cool

Get a performance air filter like cosworth or pipercross - feels so much smoother through boost.

Also before you get it remapped get both cats removed - also frees up a shite loada bhp.

How much were the coilovers??

Can't take both out, unless you get a sports cat in and that's more expense....

You can take both out! Just obviously not legally.
You will need a remap which he said he's having.

Will sound like a chinhook on idle Devil

Yeah well I bet I still drive it faster than you Will Razz

Anyway its been aligned today. NSF was half a degree toe in so no wonder it handled interestingly.

Camber: -1.25 F, -1.00 R
Toe: +0.03 F, +0.30 R
Castor: +2.55 F, not sure on rear, but standard.

Lots more grip and much more predictable on the limit. Lots less turn-in understeer, but the rear arb will sort that out more. Smile

Ecu went on today. Centre section decat and a full service tomorrow. Very impressed by the map on the ecu already even though its not making its full power yet with the cat on. Much quicker turbo spool up and loads more midrange torque. Seeing 1.2Bar max now (or thereabouts the boost guage is a bit shit)

Shopping list:
22mm rear arb
more front damping (next tuesday)
Brakes (new pads and discs tomorrow)
Replace boost piping and clean inlet piping/breathers (Stage 0 tune as the volvo guys call it).

Not now Jon, its £450 and it would give me a lot more power than the ppp ecu, but not much more torque. Will leave it as it is and concentrate on the handling/brakes/making it lighter for the time being.

Only really worth remapping it properly if I decide to put a different intercooler/turbo/full decat etc etc. Tbh I don't know if the current gearbox would take it.

Rolling road at Ajec in Staverton this saturday with UK Legacy Forum if anyone wants a cheaper run? I going to make sure its not leaning out anywhere. Doesn't feel like it now though.
